we just found out one of our "babies" has got bone cancer and it is tearing me up. We have had her since she was about 3 months old. I know when we tell the kids it is going to really hurt them. Oh, forgot to say this is one of our dogs. She is between 11 and 12 right now and too old for surgery or anything like that. Just time. Wish I was home instead of at work right now!!!

I am so sorry to hear the news about your baby. I know how you feel. We had to finally put our shih-tsu to sleep a year or so ago and it about killed me. She had develored liver cancer. She held her own on that for a while, but then started having seizures.
There are alot of do lovers here--hang in there, I am here if you need to talk!..karen

I'm so sorry! We just dealt with that recently also. We found out in January (suspected it before then) that our 9 1/2 year old rottie had bone cancer. She made it to April and then we had to "put her down" since she was struggling so much to get around.

I am so sorry to hear this I know it is very difficult to lose a pet, especially one that you have had along time. My thoughts are with you and your family at this time.

Thanks....Now I have to go home and break the news to my daughter, which is going to be very hard to do and am not looking forward to it at all. Have to go to the store tonight, so you know I am going to get my "baby" something special! I am so hating this and I am not going to tell my son at all. He has enough to deal with making it through tech school before he goes to his duty station. He does not need to know this right now. I am praying that she at least makes if until he comes home and leaves for her permanent duty station. I am sure I will be on later on sometime this weekend. Wish me luck with my daughter!!

Good luck! We all miss our dog, but it was definitely hardest on our 14-year-old daughter. It's been three months since we lost our dog, and my daughter still cries about it often.

Imale, you really hit the nail on the head with your post!
For me at leats, my cats and my dog really are extensions of my family; Heck, I sometimes prefer them WAY over my human family members. So when one gets sick, or (Heaven forbid) passes away, my grief for the loss is just as painful as that I would experience if I were to lose , say, my Mother, Brother, or Sister.
Well, maybe not so much my Brother or Sister.
Just kidding.
And it doesn't make it any easier if some inconsiderate louse tells me "it was just a dog/cat" or "you can get another." I did have some A-Hole tell me that when I had to put my 16 Y/O cat to sleep 2 years ago, and I had to bite my tongue to keep from going nuclear on her. I wanted to see what her reaction would have been if I had told her that if she had lost a human family member.
I'm sure it wouldn't have been pretty.
So I can certainly begin to identify with how 2ndband and her family feel and what they're going through at this time.
It really tears me up, and my best wishes go out to you and your family 2ndband.

2ndband...I can feel your feelings right now...I too had a dog called "Dollar" who was my best buddy. You can always expect unrequited love from them. I can never forget those moments when I returned home from office. I really miss those snuggle. I'm becoming emotional...
Best of Luck my friend
Needless to say...Your baby is adorable and you do have a great family.
