Need help too many bills and can't afford debt consolidation program payments. Any advice?

Hi Terry, Lowering the principal is not going to be the easiest thing to do unless you are severely upside down. This type of modification is not as common as it used to be, but sometimes it still occurs. A modification is not going to cost an "arm and a leg" unless you get ripped off or have hidden charges. Many of the lenders are charging upwards of 5,000 to do a modification, but they are disguised as late fees, lawyer fees, interest, etc. It really just depends. Hi Robyn...Thanks for the info. I was asking because as you know. I work for a loan mod attorney. If your fee was lower I was going to pass some of the guys that call me onto you. Our fee is only 1% of the mtg balance.

I don't know their requirements, but many lenders require at least 30 days late for approval.
