Emoticons?

I can't ever seem to get mine to work. I have "smiles" enabled, and I can see them to the left of the "post" box. But whenever I click on one, instead of entering it in my post, it just enters text instead. What am I doing wrong?

The emoticons will insert text, like
Code:
 :o  or
. But when you post, it should show up with the appropriate picture. Like this Surprised or Twisted Evil
