Sub: #81 Harrassment and inability to verify who they are

This is the 6th time that Allied Interstate has called me. At first, the lady was quick to tell me her name, but not quick to tell me where she was calling from. In addition, she was rude to me. I do not know why she was calling, neither would she tell me upon asking. She simply fumbled around with something as she is looking up my phone number! As she pulls it up, she wants to verify my social security number. My first response is that anyone can gather the information from me out of the garbage, and verifying my ssn to them would vfy that could be the correct ssn if they decided to use it for monetary gain since I had not even heard of them until I came upon this website. I knew something was fishy when the guy that answered the phone call, where I had returned a call that was showing up missed, today... the guy said yes, hold on one second, and you hear the rustle of the phone being handed over to the lady. So, my phone rings, again. This time it is a man and he doesn't go about verifying anything except that he started rattling off information to me! Given this, there was no need to verify my ssn, which leads me to think that it could be collected for fraudulent uses. I told the man of the things that I had seen about their company and that I was unwilling to cooperate with them, but that I do not mind working with the old debt, however, I pulled that out of my ass. Thanks to this page, I know that really old debts that were once charged off, and trying to pay them cause more trouble. In addition to that, I just wanted to add how rude he was and how he fit in the conversation that it was being recorded. (I'm glad! is what I say to myself.) Let me inform those of you who are able to read this, now, that trying to repay debt that is over 7 years old brings it back into your credit history. My ex was very extensive in raising his credit score, and he is the reason I know this much. If the collection is over 7 years old and would take several payments to pay off, it's not worth paying because it then becomes more owed money. If it's stale, let it lie. As for the man who kept interrupting me, I told him that calling all day long as many times as they had called, just today, is considered harrassment and that his pursuing the multiple calls would only result in another lawsuit to add to the new list. He remained hostle, so I told him to note that I will not be answering any further calls &/or actions which come from Allied Interstale... I mean, Interstate....

I have been getting calls for weeks from Allied Interstate but in the past week it has been horrible. 2 to 3 calls a day. I told one of them when she wanted me to make a payment over the phone that I would not do that, if I got a bill from them I would pay it. Then she said we dont send bills out. Yesterday I talked to another person from there and I told them right away that I will make a payment as soon as I get something in writing. He just said I'll make a note of it. So just a bit ago I get another call and I had to be sacastic at this point and said hello in a very sweet voice and then added its our daily call. And so it began again saying I owe and need to pay, blah blah blah. He said that they have sent letters informing me how much I owe and I asked him when was that. He said in January!! So I said that was 8 months ago but he corrected me and said no thats only 7 months ago. I just repeated what I have been saying to them all, if they just send me a new letter/bill whatever I would get it paid. Guess what he says next, "So when are you planning on sending us what you owe?"
HELLO!!! I even told him that I am feeling harrassed but he just ingnored me.

I paid my debt that Allied had a month ago. They still have not notified the company I originally owed the money to and none of the credit agencies. My lawyer will be calling them next week.

I am a 100% Service Connected; Totally & Permanently Disabled Combat Veteran of the United States Navy SEALs. I received a call today from Allied saying they were hired by the VA in Minnesota to verify my reocords.(I live in another state) They wanted me to give them my SSN and other personal info. I informed them that each state has its own VR Regional Dept. and that my status as a Disabled Veteran had nothing to do with MN. They became rude and said; "Well it sure in the hell does when you owe us money!" To which I replied; "If I owe you money, why then do you need my SSN?" "You should have it." They hung up. Another cll hours later went ot my voice mail. A woman left her name, number and ext. I simply gave all the information to the District Attorney and the US Attorney's Office. Poof! We shall see.

i have a post from this company on my credit report. i do remember them sending me 1 bill and it was for $1,000 which is unfortunately correct. however on my credit report it only says $145. I can pay that! However if i call them i am afraid they are going to tell me i do owe the $1,000 or whatever. Does anyone have contact information for them? This is actually in my favor but i do want it off my report completely. i'm thinking i'll just file a dispute with the bureau. i'm hoping they cant prove i owe anything since they dont even have the amount correct. i hate to sound that way, i know i owe more than that. any suggestions to what i should do? i'll gladly pay the $145 if that's all i owe according to my credit report!

Allied has been calling my home DAILY for the last 4 weeks starting at 8:30 am and ending at 8:30PM. I had ignored them knowing that the last person that had my phone number was known for not paying her bills. Last night when the phone rang at 8:38pm I reached my breaking point. I tried to call them back and was put on hold - then transferred from one non-working voice mailbox to the next. Never did I get a real person on the phone. I did leave two messages letting them know they had the wrong number. I didn't get my morning call this morning but I really doubt they will stop at just that! I couldn't believe when I came across your web site that I wasn't the only one being harrassed. I find it appalling that they can call me all hours day and night but I can't even get someone on the phone to tell them they have the wrong number!!!

These people were calling my wifes cell phone constantly trying to reach someone we don't know. When I asked for some compensation for them burning up our cell minutes they basically laughed and said they call wrong numbers all day. I don't think it unfair or unreasonable for them to send me some token compensation for using the cell minutes that I work hard to pay for. I have no dealings or accounts with these people yet they have infiltrated our life and afected it in a negative manner. Any suggestions on how to make them pay?

I have renewed my Do-Not-Call status as of a bout 6 weeks ago, right. So, why I ask myself, am I still getting telemarketers calling? Frustrated, I see a toll free # I don't recognize. Turns out to be Allied Interstate Collections. Strange because I have been keeping a VERY close record on my credit influence as of late. Unfortunately I have difficulty from time to time with my reception on my phone. The lady on the phone's (She would not give me her name) English was not her native language. So with my bad connection and her accent I had to have her repete a lot of stuff. She said that I owe just under $30 to AOL because one the payments deducted from my checking account got kicked back. The thing is I haven't had an account with AOL in over 6 years. If, I had missed a payment, why has it taken so long to reach me. I have lived at my present address for 5 years. I got suspicious. There was also some information that she gave me that was flat out WRONG. I got more suspicious. I had never even heard of AI before. Then the lady said that I could pay over the phone. She would not take a Check card - she had to have the routing and the account #'s on my check. I got more suspicious still. I told her send me the bill and gave her my physical address. This was unacceptable. She also went so far as to say if the bill was not paid in 2 days that my name would be turned over to the credit burroughs. I requested to her to wait until I varified this info with AOL. She refused. I call AOL and they search their records back over 10 years and can't find my account anywhere. But they do use Allied to collect debts for them. I work offshore in the oilfield, I go offshore early monday and will not be back for 15 days. This means that I will not have my debt (if I even have one) paid in time. This web site has validated that AI is legit and shows no mercy.

I have worked very hard to bring up my credit rating in the last few years. It would really "Hoover" to have it damaged for just 30 bucks.

Is there anything I can do?

In defense of allied who just 2 mins ago called me, That is why i am investigating. They are not allowed to give any info that may lead anybody other then the debtor to believe they are a collection agency. That is part of the hippa privacy law. If they give any info they can be sued. I told the man it wasnt me of course. he refused to give me any info.

Can a collection agency call someone other than you and give information about an account that they have for you and give private information?

That would be "negative", Phillip. Per the fdcpa, it expressly reads:

Quote:
May a debt collector contact anyone else about your debt?

If you have an attorney, the debt collector must contact the attorney, rather than you. If you do not have an attorney, a collector may contact other people, but only to find out where you live, what your phone number is, and where you work. Collectors usually are prohibited from contacting such third parties more than once. In most cases, the collector may not tell anyone other than you and your attorney that you owe money.
You can find that, as well as the rest of the PDCPA at this link.

Here is the latest number coming in on caller ID. I've been received pre-recorded messages from this company since November 9th. I'm refusing to call them since I know I have no reason to acknowledge thier calls. They started out by calling 1 time a day, since I've started turning off my answering machine my caller ID is picking up calls at a rate of 3 times a day. I find it interesting that a company like this can do this legally. I may have to change my phone number of 15 years, sad isn't it? Anyway the number I'm getting calls from is 775-319-1510 for any of you seeing this number on your caller ID that's who it is.

As of today I have filed a complaint with my state attorney general. This company is violating federal law every time they call me when they start using profane language.

Here are my inputs about this evil collection agency named “Allied Interstate”. AI started calling me about three or some months ago. As everybody stated they were rude and not professional like. In the “AI” eloquent speech, they are demanding for payments that go far back to the year 1995 “they said it is 195 dollar”. When I called them back, I tried to reason with them, meaning, please tell me what it is going on? They didn't rebutted instead, they started to ask me about my personal information. I refused to answer and I handed up. Now, after three months of harassment, I have a nice welcome wakeup in my credit report. AI reported a KD that brought my credit score from a 730 to 696. Please help!
