Your annoyance is justifiable. I can feel how irritating it is to receive wrong calls from debt collectors. This is a forum where people discuss about there problems. You have to send them cease and desist letter. Also file complaint against them with FTC, BBB and AG's office.

What is avon trying to do to us. I got a call to day at work from my daughter telling me that a lady called named jo. Told her that i had to call them in 72 hours or i was going to be sued. This is what she told my child. I called her back and she said that i owed avon $ 167.00 and she was going to triple the amount plus add legal fee and so on. I told her i have not sold avon in over 9 years and then i left oweing 0.00. She told me that i would pay this amount or i would not have a job to pay anything else. I told her i was not going to pay her one red penny that she could go to he--. Then she started with some real good words. I told her that i would call avon.
So i did and of course they cant find anything on me so i told them if i got one more call about this or if it came up on my credit that i would call lawyer and i would sue them and i hung up the phone . Then she called my house again and got vert rude with my child told her that she was a lier that i was at home. I tryed to call her back but i did not get her.
Something needs to be done about them.

You can imagine how I felt today on my lunch break from work when I received a call from Allied Data Corporation saying that I have outstanding debt with Avon and that if I don't do something today, and I quote: "The amount will triple and you will be taken to court." Thanks a lot Avon! They rope you in with hopes that you will make a ton of money, then when it doesn't work out for you, they threaten to sue you for some ridiculously small amount of money.

I somehow was able to get in touch with Avon and they told me that they did indeed hire Allied Data to handle my sickeningly small debt. So I guess it's the right company, but the lies and harassment are inexcusable. I think there is a government website with standards of what collectors can and cannot do or say. I'll check into it

Don't get scared of such illegal threats. Trust me, they are violating the laws and you can press charges against them.
First of all, this is a collection agency and by law, they are required to validate the debt in writing. When they say that they are not required to send anything in writing, they are going against the norms. Send a debt validation request from your side through certified mail with return receipt requested. This way you will have proof that you tried to contact the company and wanted to know the details of the account before making a payment. If the matter is taken to the court (which I am sure, it won't), the judge will make decisions in your favor.

Definitely, the laws are applicable in all the 50 states in US. These are mentioned in the FDCPA act. Have a look at the link attached here.
You cover most of your basis after sending the validation letter through certified mail with return receipt requested. You can also keep a follow up over the phone. But do the communication in writing from your side. This is important so that you can prove your part of the story.

I found this site yesterday and can't believe how many people are sharing the same problem as me. After reading the posts, I tried to contact Avon's collcetion dept. to see if I may have left owing a debt just to make double sure. I called Avon and all I get is a answering machine telling to leave my name, number and my social since I do not have an account number with them. I left my name and number but I refuse to leave me social on any answering machine, especially after reading all this. I have tried to call 7 times today and a few times last night and still nothing....can anyone help me. I also tried to call ADC at 281-275-7176 and it's a recorded message in Oriental....what is this???

You did the right thing by not giving out your social security number to an unknown place. You never know how they can misuse it! Also, I will recommend sending a letter to their mailing address requesting for the details. Send your letter through certified mail with return receipt requested. This way, you will have proof that you made every effort to know the details of the account.

Robert Blair is the President and Raymond Blair is the Director, maybe you should call and ask for them. If that doesn't work I can post their home phone numbers...

I began getting the recorded message "an important decision is being made about you" from Allied last week. I called them yesterday. The collection agent told me that I owe $32.00 to Avon. I have not worked for Avon in almost two years. I have never heard anything from Avon regarding any outstanding debt. I am sending a certified debt validation letter to Allied tomorrow. I am also going to attempt to get in touch with someone in the Avon collections department. Given what I've read in the previous posts on the issue, I am not expecting much help from Avon in this matter.
cheers,
mtd

These people are very rude - i legidimately owed a bill and try to moved the payment after being harrassed about sending in post dated checks - which is illegal to write if there is not enough money in the account. Then, when my representative was out of the office for two weeks no one bothered to check the voice mail so when i called back they stated it was too late to post date the check again luckily i was able to have the money. One more payment left and i am done with these rude people. I guess some collection agencies still think it is okay to harrass people even if you owe them money. To make a long store short - today i needed to move the check later - of course, if was too late. I told the rep. That if the money is there i do not need there western union information. She stated that she needed a date by the end of this month so i have her one. Being forceful and rude when someone is calling a company to resolve a balance if not a way to do business. I pray that these people read this and realize it - i hope that everyone of the people that work there have servere financial difficulties - and someone treats them like this so they can find out how stressful and humilitating it is! I will never do anything like this again - it is sad that it is not considered fraud on their end but on my end it is!
