Chances are Allied Data Corp, aka ADC has made the call. Allied Data Corp/ADC is a collection agency and ill-famed of making wrong calls and leaving harassing messages. They do not leave the name of the company or anything. So people get confused about the purpose of the call. They make calls on Sundays also. There are instances of ADC for calling debtors 15 times in a day.

From the forum posts it seems that ADC breaks fdcpa laws quite frequently. They try to collect the debts that are discharged in bankruptcy, already paid, past SOL. Their most preferred creditor is AVON.

When debtors dispute the debt and send all possible documents stating the debt has been paid already, they usually try to neglect the documents and continue asking for money, for example:

When a debtor sends copies of records that prove the debt was paid to the original creditor, ADC says the consumer might have another account with the creditor. Or, the consumer might have allowed someone else to use his SS#, so he owes the debt and should pay it.

It is suggested to contact the original creditor if ADC calls you. If you have paid the debt to your creditor, ask them for paper works that you can send to ADC. Check your credit report if ADC has made any wrong input there.

Thanks for this information. I really liked the FAQ composed on how to deal with the collection agencies. I would like to use this information upfront in dealing with some of the collector calls.

They have called my dad's house twice today. I dont live with my dad and never have. They told my dad that I put him down as a reference. I have no idea what I would have put my dad down for a reference about.

I had lovely conversations with these sharks last year. When I looked up the information about them on the BBB's website, I was floored at how many complaints these people have on them. It amazes me that they're even in business. Finally I had enough and sent them a cease comm letter via certified mail. Never heard from them again.

This isn't Avon's only collection agency though, btw. LTD Financial LP collects for them as well, and they are just as bad.

I was getting calls from a very rude gentleman when finally i yelled at him....told him to watch his mouth.....and not to dare make another threat or demand to me....I told him i wanted his supervisor on the immediatly and when I got her she was extreamly nice and set up a very easy payment plan that was actually great! Im finally debt free. I think I was one of the very few REALLY LUCKY ONES!!
