I live in South Carolina and you mention in a post that a collection agency must be licensed in the state of SC to collect there. LVNV began collections attempts a few years ago but wasn't licensed with the SC Secretary of State until Sept. 12, 2006. Can you help me find the law that says that a collection agency must be licensed in SC to collect here. Thanks! | |

I disagree with your statment. The laws vary from state to state. You should refer people to review the laws within there state. Once a law firm has notified you in writing that they have been retained regarding one of your debts. That is all that most states require. And then you are given roughly 30 days legally to dispute or work something out voluntarily. | |

What if a law firm has came collecting and they have no address (on papers served)of the original creditor or cresit service? My account was with MBNa, went to Pinnacle Credit Services and now is being taken care of a law firm. Do I send the letter there? | |

I have a collection company called me saying the same thing that they are going to have me arrested. Can they do that? I have asked for information regarding who they are collecting for they were being very evasive. I have very sketchy and dont know what to do. The amound they are requesting is twice the amount. Any feedback would be great | |

I have not had a positive response from them. they have continued to take money out of my checking account for almost a year and could not find them. My loan was paid off and now they tell me that I had to call them when it was paid off... Effin sheisters... Scam artists... when I told JACK today that they sounded more like Loan Sharks because he wouldn't give me a last name for my lawsuit against them - he hung up on me! | |
