asset acceptance compay is the biggest joke to fraud collection out there. I have hired an attorney to handle my case. THey tried coming after me for a debt that I had more then seven years ago, and sent wage garnishment to my company. I was married last November and according to law you can not bring prior debt into a new married household, had a great attorney and he squashed it. Got all of my monies back. Now this company has fraudantly added my husband on the debt and is trying to deduct my wages again. I will fight every ounce of my being to make sure this company pays me back double what I owed years years ago, and then get them for harrasement and fogery. THey are the worst company to have to deal with ever.. Sick .

I receive phone calls everyday from asset acceptance and my wife is really getting tired of hearing the phone ring. She is ready to divorce me because of the calls day and night, even on Sunday! The debt they say I owe is from 28 years ago and they offered me a settlement of 99 dollars from an 800 dollar bill. I would be happy to pay the 99 dollars just to keep the phone from ringing but my wife will not let me pay it because it is not on my credit report. I am not really sure I really owe it in the first place, it's from so long ago I really don't remember. If anyone knows if this is a legitimate company please let me know. Thanks!

Wise word from the… bill collector?
Collection agency employee speaking… oh no! No worries, I am not from Asset Acceptance! I am here with friendly advice…
If you receive a bill/phone call from a collection agency there are two HUGE things you should do: 1) Ask questions, questions, and more questions! Always ask who you are speaking to and their supervisors name. Ask them to verify your information, as it reads in their system. (What do your records show my address/date of birth/last four of my social security as?) This will directly identify if they are speaking to the right person. Ask them what date they received the account from the original creditor, and if they have sent a hard-copy letter to you? (Date? Address? Name addressed to? ) Ask what the bill is for, date(s) of service, what the service rendered was, and doctors/patients name (if applicable). And very important – ask for a record of the conversation, and ask if all calls are recorded. (Confirmation Number, Date, Etc.) 2) If you do owe the bill, ask for a settlement! Most collection agencies are given empowerment (sometimes up-to 40% off original amount) to settle debt. Example, if you owe a $1,000 bill ask if you can settle the account for $400. You would be surprised how many settlements are extended to polite debtors if they simply ask. Just ask for written verification via FAX. Also, if you owe the bill and the CA is just extremely unfriendly, simply send your payments to the original creditor. The CA will still get the credit and the issue will be resolved, but it really pisses the collection agent off! Hope this helps! |

I have been contacted by Asset Acceptance two years ago for a bill that is not mine for a city I have never heard of nor ever been to. According to my credit card's fraud department they find people with similiar names to stick the bill to. I changed my phone number because they would not accept the fact that I am not the owner of the debt. Now, it appears that they have accessed my credit report to obtain my current phone number. I have changed my phone again. On the advice of the Fair Trade Commission and the Attorney General's Office, I have sent them a "Stop Communication" letter yesterday and saying that I am not the owner of the debt.
Am I now in danger of being summoned to court as a result of the, "Stop communication" letter? I filed a police report yesterday. The police officer told me he will be contacting them to tell them to stop contacting me. In the past, when I have called the police, Access Acceptance hangs up on the police officer. Two days ago when the police were here, he also called them but they told him to pass the phone to me. When the police officer passed the phone to me. I was asked me if such and such social security number was mine. I said, "no." They hung up on me. They are not intimidated by the police. They just ignore telephone calls from the police. From reading complaints on the internet, it appears that once Asset Acceptance gets a Cease and Desist letter from the wrong person they use that letter to summons the WRONG person with the similiar name as the original debtor had to court. Has anyone else been in this situation of being summoned to court for having a similiar name as the original debtor? Again, I have been told by one of my credit card company's fraud department that they find people with a similiar name to stick the bill to and that they don't care of they go after the wrong person. They figure that the wrong person will give them the money to make the problem go away. |
