The account was negative and the bank manger said that he couldnt close it completely until it was at a zero balance but he put everything on hold. It was messed up from the start but the withdrawals had stopped coming out and the bank wasnt charging any fees.

So now they reopened it and are charging fees. Cant you tell them that these are unauthorized debits. That sounds like fraud to me.

I tried to tell them that, the funny thing is that they reopened it with a fee charged by them. And now today there are all the payday loan people trying to get money. I told them that I was in dispute with these companies but she didnt seem to care. I am going to go argue with the bank some more later. This isnt fair.

Im having it deposited into a friends account so that the pdl cant get it. I am gonna go to the bank again at lunch and see if I can get some help. These payday loans are crazy. I wish that they would all be outlawed.

File a complaint with your state's banking department and explain to them your situation. I bet that will get someone's attention.

If it is fraud did you file a police report? I would also read over your banking agreement. I know my bank will only close an account if there is a zero balance in it.

Most banks have policies and procedures for closing accounts. Most times if an account is negative the bank will not close it per customers request. Many of them will wait 90 days before charging off the account and closing it. Unfortunately if a debit or check comes through they will either
1. return the check saying NSF
2.pay the debit if it was authorized prior or is an ACH

If it is a pdl check I would guess that they will NOT pay it and it will be returned NSF

When you say it was on hold, do you mean that you put a stop payment on this check?

Oh one other thing I forgot , MANY banks will re-open an account after it is closed even if it was positive IF a debit transaction or ACH comes through. This is very common. Many banks have practices that are considered by MOST UNFAIR

chexsystemsvictims.com and read Chexsystems and Minorities to see what I mean by unfairness. Can I ask what bank this is?

bank of america is the bank. I went to the bank yesterday and the manager there put the account in "closing status" for me and I hope it will stay that way. I have to hurry and come up with the money to make it a zero balance so it can close completely. Thank you all for your advice, it is comforting to come to this site and know that all of you understand.

BOA is a really hard bank to deal with when it comes to these issues. You are treated like a number not a person. That is the mentality of " bigger banks "
