How long does an account stay on chex systems? and how do I go about disputing an account

Accounts stay on Chexsystems for a period of 5 years. But it can be removed before this period if the bank makes a request for its removal.
If you want to dispute any wrong entry then you can follow the following steps: -
Request for a free copy of your report of Chexsystems.
Then send a dispute letter asking them to remove the wrong information.
Chexsystems generally take more or less 30 days time to verify the claim and report back to you. If they agree with your claim then they will remove or rectify the mistake.
