Fifth Third Bank has an account called Basic53 which allows customers a checking accounts who is currently on chexsystems. I called the customer services number and the rep could not identify me due to the fraud alert on my credit report. I went to the local branch and the rep took all of my information and instantly approved me not for the basic53, but for a FREE CHECKING ACCOUNT. I am so happy right now. So if anybody have a FIFTH THIRD BANK in their area and is currently on chexsystems i recommend this bank. OH AND BY THE WAY, MY CHEXSYSTEMS REPORT IS HORRIBLE.

I was well aware of this account but I didn't want to post it until I knew more about WHO was being approved.

Do you still owe on your chex report? Does it show you owe?
Does your report show NSF, fraud , accounts abuse etc?
how old is your report?

Thank you so much for the input.

I have 4 accounts in chexsystems, Wachovia is paid, Bank of America shows Account Abuse (im currently disputing),WAMU shows NSF, and a local credit union shows as paid. And when the rep pulled my report all of those accounts came up. The last date of activity shows 12/06. The rep and the manager still approved me for a free checking account. Once i got approved and left the bank I called my bestfriend and told her about the account, she went into the branch and she was also approved and her chexsystem report is worse than mine, she was approved for the basic53 account. They even gave her a temporary debit card until hers come in the mail.

A couple of weeks ago I called my local 5/3 about getting a new account. I told them I was in ChexSystems and they told me they wouldn't be able to open an account for me at all. Also, be careful. My friend has an account with 5/3 and they charge a lot of fees.........

I think the best thing to do is to go into the branch and talk to a rep. I have recommended a few people just this week and all have been approved for the basic 53. The only fee i am aware of is that for the basic 53 they charge 8.00 monthly fee minus 2.00 if you have direct deposit. They convert the account to a regular one after one year. The lady who helped me was very nice, she went ahead and gave me a regular account after the manager signed for approval.

I too am on chex systems-I applied for an account online with fifth third, and was approved for the Basic 53 account-minimum deposit of $50 and a fee of $7.50 a month.

I was just told by my personal banker at 5/3 that I had to be switched to Basic53 for 6 months. Does anyone know if they will be taking money out of my account to pay off those other banks I banked with? That would really suck since my mom is the one who screwed it all for me.

Fifth third can be a good bank if you have been reported to chexsystems as long as you are not reported to EWS, If you are reported to only chexsystems, they will sometimes approve you for just a regular checking depending on the report. If the report is is really bad then they do offer
"some but not all" the second chance account that they do offer. Of course regardless of which account you are approved for, it doesn't matter if you are reported to EWS. If you are reported to EWS, tehy WILL close the account at a later time. This is a report that is ran by the " risk management dept" Many managers are not even aware of it.

I live in Ohio in Cuyahoga County. Do the 5/3 banks in this area offer checking accounts to people who are on ChexSystems?
Thanks

Fifth Third is the one that reported me to Chexsystems in the first place. I'm currently paying off the collector. When I banked there I switched to them to make it easier when I visit family in Dayton, OH as they were the only bank in both locations. I thought they were horribly slow at crediting deposits. They had a bank inside a Schnucks that kept really late hours but sometimes if you made a deposit on Friday night it wouldn't be available until the following Tuesday.
Switching to Fifth Third from a local bank was probably the biggest mistake of my life.
