Hi all hope someone can help me with this one. If your bank has charged off and closed your account WAMU due to overdraft fees from PDLs. Will they still accept your direct deposit from the IRS? I called the bank and she said no they can not accept deposits or withdrawls. I just wanted to check with you guys to see what you think. Thanks alot for your input.

As far as I know, according to the IRS website, if your account is closed and your direct deposit is rejected by the bank, it will be returned to the IRS and you will be issued a paper check. However, your check may not come according to the schedule posted at irs.gov - it will take longer, because the IRS will be working on getting the first batches of checks out in the mail, and then they'll handle the rejected direct deposits or checks that couldn't be delivered.

I hate to say this, but I wouldn't look for your check until July or August. Crying or Very sad

If you owe WAMU money and your payment is deposited to them...chances are they will keep the deposit but I am not 100% on that. There were a few people last year that had their tax return itself sent to an account that was in the same situation and the exact situation occoured.

Nothing showing on WAMU account as deposited as of yet the deposit was to take place according to the IRS today. hummm I suppose that could be good news

I spoke directly with the IRS as this is happening to me right now. My bank account was closed in April and on May 2nd my stimulus check was direct deposited into my closed account. The IRS said that it takes up to 2 weeks to get the payment returned and then they wait a week and process a paper check and mail it. I checked with the IRS on friday May 16th and they hadn't received the payment back yet so I still wait. She said that I could expect my paper check the first week in June.

Was the account closed still owing them money? If so,chances are the bank will not return the money.

Ok I just checked with WAMU and the direct deposit from the IRS was returned because the account is closed. Spoke with the IRS today and was told that I could expect the check around June 6 Smile

that is great.. I am sure you are relieved. I just know that one time
(long time ago)my husband has an account that was closed and apparently still owed money to them and they kept his direct deposit (payroll)

My last two are 86 and I had HR Block take out my filing fees. If I had know that this would produce a paper check I would had paid my fees up front and now I have to wait untill July 4th sometime. Any one in this same boat as I am?

According to the schedule, I should get it in the mail sometime after the 20th of this month. I know that's not far away, but that money would make life a lot easier right now.
