Thats all I need to come up for the lawyers fee and file. I will have it by next week. I did not realize it would cost so much to file Chp 7 $2500, I am in N. CA. The scary part will be the court appearances, YIKES! The pre-counseling session went over ALL that I owed and I owe more than 2x what we make in 1 year. I feel SOOOO irresponsible and more. I have learned a VERY expensive lesson, CASH IS KING from now on!

The court appearance is going to go by so fast, it's not that bad. There will be several others in the room who are going through the same thing. I was really nervous but I felt so much better after it was all over. It was like a huge weight lifted off my shoulders.

I believe if both of you filed together than both will need to show up. My case has been discharged for about two years now. I was lucky to find a lawyer that new my parents and he gave me a payment plan and he filed my case right away.

I believe you both will need to be there if it is in both your names. My husband and I both had to be there when we did ours.

Like PL said, you have nothing to be scared of. There will be lots of people there doing the same thing you are. The worst part is waiting for your case to be called. They will just ask you a few questions and that is it.

Wow, didn't realize it was so expensive to file in CA. We paid $1500 for ours in NC.

Hang in there...it will be over before you know it.

Shoot! Here in Chicago, it's only $1400 for a Chapter 7.

I'd call a few other firms to see what they charge. $2500 seems too high for a 7.

I live in one of the more affluent counties in Northern Cali, so this is what I have to pick from. My rent is ONLY $600, thank God 4 a huge 4 bed house. My parents happen to own the house live in. I am using this lawyer on the recomendation of someone I highly trust and respect. $2500 is a very small price to pay for stopping the incesssant phone calls. Even after writing c&d letters, the calls continue! Besides, I already signed the retainer paperwork, so there is no way out. Thank you to everyone for all the helpfull advice, one last ?? though: DO you guys recomend doing Dave Ramsey's classes. I just started listening to Clark Howard, a little too late, and I really want to do the rught thing after all the dust has settled.
