Was curious as to which chapter hurts your credit more, chapter 7 or chapter 13.

You recover quicker from chapter 7, at least in my opinion. Within two years of filing and doing a lot of disputing, I was getting prime credit offers.

I will tell you as a lender, we look at bankruptcy the same regardless of what Chapter it is. Our guidelines state you have to be discharged 3 years before you can qualify for a home loan.

I agree with Soaplady, you do recover quicker from a chapter 7 than a chapter 13. For example.

A chapter 7 is usually discharged within a few weeks of filing. A chapter 13 isn't discharged until have you've completed all the payments. Depending on whether your set up on a 3 year plan or a 5 year plan. So with a ch13 you pay on it for 3 to 5 years, when payment is complete, then it gets discharged. So then you have to wait 3 years before you can get a home loan.

I hope that helps.

A bankruptcy will stay on your credit report for 10 years. If it doesn't fall off at the 10 year mark, you can dispute it and they should take it off.
