Lee,

First off, thanks for posting your comment.

Now-a-days, it's really difficult for one to trust others with one's information. You're right that online transactions possess greater risk as most of the scams take place there. So, when posting your sensitive data online, check the site's authenticity and also check out the company's privacy policy before submitting your information. Also avoid clicking on links that are from unsecured sources.

If you're not confident about posting your information on a site, better avoid it.

Hi, I had my car stolen and my insurance is going to payoff a certain amount of my car, but I am left with a balance of $5.800.00. I want to get another car. All of my payments have been on time. What i want to know is if I should settle the $5,800.00 by offering then $2000.00? how would this affect me? Could I require as a condition that they will show the account paid in full, paid as agreed?

Thanks

How can you be safe doing business online? Is this where there is a lot of scam artist? Can I purchase long term health insurance online in a safe manner? If I go to a person in an office, which is really his house, does he also put my information out on the internet, being that he is not sitting in (for example) the John Hancock office?

In 2006 I picked up a few pay day loans. I went to pay them off. I was able to pay all but 1 of them the company informed me that they no longer had my information. So, I just decided to leave it alone. Then my aunt calls me in November and tells me someone is calling her telling her they are taking me to jail and so on. I paid them $200 in December and was suppose to pay the other $200 this January but, I am in a bit of a financial bind so I am unable to. The manager of this particular company has cursed me, called me ignorant, and told me I was going to jail because I did not pay the bill. I have called them and asked if, they could possibly wait until next month. In this situation I don't know what to do.

Help!!
I have had 3 previous title loans from the same company here in Boise, all in good standing.
Well, on my 4th loan, the engine on my car had went out & I was forced to buy another vehicle.
Anyway, I had gotten behind on payments so agreed to come in in 2 weeks to pay off loan, which was this past Fri.
We had agreed to settle for $985 so I went in & paid it..
Today I have a letter in the mail from them w/ a one-time offer to settle for $500.00 at the same local office..
If I wouldn't have borrowed this $, it wouldn't be such a huge deal!
Is there ANYTHING that I can do guys!?
I have an offer to settle for $500.00 2 days after paying it off!!!

I would like to hear more about settlement - should the debtor offer 1/2 of the debt on a judgement - or 3/4 or is there a rule of thumb regarding this? Or is this even negotiable?

MY HUSBAND AND I ARE FARMERS WE BORROWED ON CREDIT CARDS FOR YEARS AND PAID THEM EVERY YEAR WHEN WE GATHERED OUR CROPS. HURRICANE GUSTAVE 2008 RUINED ALL OUR CROPS SO WE HAVE BEEN PAYING OUR MONTHLY NOTES FROM OTHER BORROWED MONEY WHILE THE CREDIT CARDS HAE JUMPED UP THEIR INTEREST RATES AND NOW TO TOP IT OFF WE HAD ANOTHER DISASTER FARMING YEAR DUE TO DROUGHT., THEN CONTINUOUS RAIN IN OCTOBER THE HARVEST MONTH.
THERE IS NO WAY WE CAN PAY BACK OVER $60,000.00 IN CC DEBT PLUS $44,000.00 on our house which had been paid for for 35 years. WE ALSO HAVE FARMING EQUIPMENT NOTES. WE ARE ON DISABILITY AND I AM HAVING MY SECOND BACK SURGERY THIS YEAR ON DEC 29, 2009. WE HAD COUNTED ON OUR FARMING INCOME WHICH IS MANEGED BY OUR SON TO PAY THESE DEBTS BACK AND NOWM2 DISASTERS IN SUCCESSION (very rare) has put us in terrible shape financially plus using up all our saved retirement and now we are 63 and 59 years old and disabled to start over. Should we try negoitiating with the credit card companies? ShoulD we try before we run completely out of money and have to stop making payments?

I do not know if it going to help with the credit card companies not raising interest rates, because this month I have received several notices from my credit card companies raising the rate as of Jan.1,2010.

Wow! Getting married! It sounds as the most beautiful thing in the world. My two sons got married and they all went for an easy saver method, which allowed them to raise money and to buy all the necessary things in their new house. Good luck and be blessed!
