I just received a call from Central Portfolio Control telling me that I bounced a check to a company I have never heard of 4 years ago. They have no info to give me on the company and I can't find anything online about the company they say I owe! Can anyone help?

PostPosted: Wed May 23, 2007 6:12 am Subject: CPC INC.

I recieved a phone call from CPC INC. about a bill that I dont even remember, anyway the person that called me was very unprofesional. He was mean. He told me that I was going to jail, and when I told him that I could not pay a bill that I had no proof that I even owed he told me to ask my parents for the money (I am 30 by the way.) He insisted that I give him the number to my parents credit card over the phone and I could stay out of jail. I told him I had 2 children to support and I could not pay $1,000.00 of money I wasnt even sure that I owed. He informed me that my children didn't have to eat EVERY day..That they would be fine. I asked to speak to his boss and he said he didn't have one. He informed me that He was going to call me everyday, He said that I would wake up to his voice and fall asleep to his voice. Then I hung up. In 10 min. He called me back !!! And asked me if I had became responsible yet. IN 10 MIN !!!! I will not pay this bill with out some form of document showing that I owe it. I do not recall oweing this money. I would be more than happy to pay off any debt that I may owe someone, I just need some proof before giving a credit card number or check to anyone. Some of the things that this man has said to me is scary. I can't fall asleep at night from being worried that he is going to call and say some of the degrating things that he said to me. I am afraid of this person and I do not know what to do about it. If I owe the bill I will pay it.I just wont this man to leave me alone. I have night mares about this man !!

HELP!!!!!!!I have outstanding credit. I owe no one.I have nothing to do with these phone calls. Apparently, someone prior to my owning this home had a debit. Why can't these people understand that. Unfortunetely, I'm having to disconnect my phone...place it unlisted and hopefully this will stop it. I just hate having to change my number that I've had for over 7 years. Does anyone have a real solution to have these uneducated people call my number for a debt I have ABSOUTELY nothing to do with.

Get the name of the company that is calling you - if they will give you an address, get that as well; if they won't give you an address, search for it on this site. Then mail a "Cease and Desist" letter to the company. This should stop them from calling you. Also, check the laws for recording calls in your state. If you can record the calls, you can use their own words to sue them for violating the law.

I had these people call my phone repeatedly looking to collect from some guy I never heard of but apparantly gave them my cell phone#. After awhile I called them and explained who I was and not the person they were looking for and to please take out my number. They didn't. Called again and I called back and was spoken to very rudely. I asked the guy the name of the company and he wouldn't tell me and I asked where they were located and he said 'On Your Mama!!!!' Classy.

This company is very unprofessional. Best thing to do is NOT answer thier calls. Report them to the BBB and Federal Trade Commisson. They laughed at me, hung up on me and after demanding I get to speak with a supervisor I would have much rather talked to the piss ant that called me first. The supervisor was worse than any of them. They refused to give me the name of their company (I had to do a reverse search on the number they called me from)...they refused to give me a name of whom I was talking to. IN the end they had been trying to reach someone that had the number I had before me. I had no clue who this person was and they didn't believe me. I hope all is over now I guess we will see in the months to come.

PostPosted: Thu Sep 27, 2007 10:13 am Subject: central portfolio control threatened to harm me

I have been receiving phone calls from these people since I got a new phone number in July - they are looking for someone named HIroshi and I have explained that my number is new and that I do not know the person. They call 3-4 times a day on average of 3 days a week.

On September 24th, they called again, I explained it to them, again and told them not to call anymore and hung up. The guy called back immediately screaming Don't you ever hang up on me again youf**king b*tch or I'll come over there and kick your ass" and then he scremed repeatedly a GIVE ME HIS NUMBER. I screamed back and hung up and he called back two more times. After I calmed down, I called them back and spoke to someone named Jennfer and she hung up pn me!!

I've FTC, Minnesota Department of commerce, do not call registry and also called the local police to reprt the threat. They called the company and confirmed that I am not the person they are looking for.

HELP!!!

Understand that we are people trying to earn a living, we recieve ALOT of commission for each debt we collect, $16,000 in fees we collect comes out to be about $7,500 commission check each month. If we get your phone number and you are not the "debtor" there's pretty much nothing you can do but give them another phone number, try having the number to the FTC on hand and give them that number as the debtor's number - maybe we'll get the message... But anyways, if you KNOW the debtor, GIVE them their number!! Or call the debtor yourself and have THEM correct the problem or pay the debt!! The reason we are so rude is becasue 99.9% of debtors that owe money LIE about who they are, we're thinking YOU are the debtor and YOU are LYING to us about who you are so you don't have to pay the debt.[/b]

OK. You've made your point. Now it's my turn.

Nothing gives you the right to pull some of the crap that collectors pull. Consider that the person on the other end of that phone call may actually be telling you straight. He may not know the person you're looking for, or where to find him. He may not give a rusty f*#k about your supposed commission check. Damn straight I don't.

You want to continue playing this game? Sure, you can call up at all hours, ranting and raving. You can threaten and bluster and generally act the fool. Hell, disregard law, civility and common courtesy altogether. It's all the same to me.

Last time someone like you called here, I laughed in his face. Made the poor boy so flustered he couldn't hardly talk. Honestly, I didn't mean to hurt his last feeling. I guess it was just his lucky day. He got off light.

Before calling up and acting the fool with somebody you know nothing about, you might want to just chill out a bit. As far as I'm concerned, if you get rude, abusive, or whatever, that person you called has every right to use whatever means he's got at his disposal to make you see reason. Legal or otherwise. Nobody is required to be your doormat.

Some of us might lie. Some might hang up on you. Others might write letters to you, or to your clients, or government regulators. Still others may even sue. You never know, that person you screamed profanity at this morning at 3:30 might be the one of us with the skills to track you down, and the means to make his displeasure felt in person. It has happened.

How about you spare a thought for the other guy before you ruin his day? Or before he ruins yours.
