Hello,

I had a collection from Palisades that must have then been sent to Unifund. I paid the balance in full about 18 months ago. Unifund is nowhere on my CR but Palisades is still showing up with a balance. Is it as simple as clling them to have the balance removed or is it stuck on my report?

Thanks.

Dispute this with the credit bureaus, it will get removed.

jiniowa, do you have proof on your account being paid off? If yes, dispute with the credit bureau as well as with the collection agency. They must update your file with correct information.

Thanks for the help. Yes, I have a copy of the check and a letter from the law firm that Unifund used to contact us stating that the debt was paid in full plus interest.

I called Palisades today and they said they would take care of it. He did not sound too convincing but he did say that it would be taken care of in 30 days at the latest.

Would it be a good idea to dispute with the CBs anyway, just as back up?

Yes, you can dispute the item with the credit bureau also. Wrong information has been posted in your credit report and it is necessary that it gets corrected at the earliest possible time. Once you place the dispute with the credit bureau, they will begin their own method of investigation with the collection agency.

You need to dispute via mail with the credit agencies, mail them a copy of your letter and that should clear it up.
