Has anyone ever dealt with CBCS? They called me the other day to say that I owe Comcast $407. Of course they wanted all my information but not before I got all the information from them first. The cool part was that it through her off when I started asking the questions. Then I think she hated it when I said that I was not acknowledging the debt. She proceeded to say that I had spoken with them in the past and had made many promises to pay and have broken them. I've never spoken with them in the past. After I told her that, she said that the collection would remain on my credit report and then hung up. It's no wonder why we all think they are sleazy.
Guess I'll have to send them one of my strongly worded letters. ANd on top of that, the debt has been paid for.

Well, since you are sure that the debt is already paid, they are responsible to prove it in writing that you have an outstanding balance. The burden falls on them.
It is not legal for them to report collections after the account is already paid. They don't have legal rights to do any kind of reporting in your credit report. You should monitor your credit report regularly for any of their mischievous activities.

I am going to send them a debt validation letter. But I saw that they are reporting on my credit report. Can they do that when the debt has not been validated?

I currently have an account with them for MCI for $706.59..... They really don't bother me that much b/c when they call I tell them that I am going to mail my payment. I think that they have only called like 2 or 3 times and I have just got one letter from them.

outlaw, a debt collector should be able to validate the debt if they are reporting in your credit copy. You must send a follow up letter again to get the debt info. Still, if nothing comes up, dispute their entry with the credit bureau and show proof of the past validation requests. They will remove this CA reporting an incorrect item. Get it fixed asap because your credit scores are hurt due to collections and that also because of wrong reporting.

I have three things on my credit report from them from when I was in high school. I've tried to tell them and I've even sent my high school transcripts to them to prove that the debt is my parents. They still fight me about it though. I told them they aren't getting any money out of me especially since in June of 2009 it comes off of my report!!! They are crooks!
