Has anyone had any dealings with Weltman,Weinberg and Reis ? If so,how are they about making payment arrangements? I was offered a settlement amount on an old Sears Debt.
I want to have some idea of how to handle them. Confused

Karen -

I would advise validating the debt, unless you are certain it's yours, and that the amount is correct.

If it is all correct, and they are offering a settlement, I would say accept it, but make sure you get everything in writing, including the settlement offer and a Paid In Full letter after the debt is paid.

I'm sorry, Karen - I don't quite understand your last post. Can you please clarify - you sent a letter of validation to "Lvnv" - who is Lvnv? Have you received a letter that details the settlement offer, and that they will accept payments? Most often, if you call a collection agency, you will be able to work a payment plan out. Also, you stated "it seems this law firm is not attempting to collect this debt" - was that a typo, or did I misunderstand something? If they aren't collecting a debt, why are they contacting you?

Often, a collection agency hires a law firm for their collections. If I am thinking right, your accounts with Sears is sold to LVNV Funding and they have hired this law firm. Who is offering you the settlement? You should have everything in writing from the company proposing the "settlement" and that they will be updating your account with the bureaus after the debt is paid.
