I called National Money Store this morning. They were VERY nice to me ( I was stunned) and explained the whole story that I had my account closed and I asked them if I could send a money order and they said they only deal with money orders!
The man gave me an address
National Money Store
700 Central Ave
APDO 409-2400
DESAMPARADOS, SAN JOSE
COSTA RICA
The man said that if I send the money order for $250.00 and it was post dated before 2/9/07 he would not add on any other fees....
My question is- should I go ahead and do this?
I did not know they were out of the country!?!?!?
I guess I am needing some imput. Does this sound legit?
He did tell me that it could take up to 3 weeks to get to them but as long as it was post marked before the 9th of feb I would be OK? He also said he had no idea how much postage was....
Any feedback is welcomed!
Thanks!

If you still owe them money, then yes. It is rare these ipdls will pony up a physical address and accept money orders. See if they have a fax number that you can fax a copy of the money order as proof you have obtained one to pay the loan. The post office should be able to tell you how much the postage is, I'm sure it isn't too expensive.

tweety - do you still owe on the principal balance of the loan, or have you paid that and the allowed interest for your state already? If you still owe on the principal balance, and are willing to accept their offer to settle for $250, I would take it and request they send you something stating your account is paid in full.

Is this a settlement on the full balance? Get something in writing first before you send them money. You need to have documentation.

Get the arrangement done in writing first. Have them say that after you send the money, your account should be marked closed and you will be sent a PIF letter.

Tweety,
Please get the settlement letter in writing before you send the money order. This way you will have proof of the settlement in case they try to turn over the remaining balance to an outside collection agency down the road. Don't be afraid to ask for it. Also, see if you can send it with some type of proof of delivery? With some sort of signature.

I am with everyone here--it makes sense to get it in writing. I guess I've just been burned too many times by PDL's and am not very trusting. It's just a good protection for yourself.

First need to know if anyone has dealt with these guys? I have every intention of paying them, I just don't have the full amount. The manager in the store front told me that if I bring in $500, I could borrow the next day, otherwise I am in big trouble. If I take in the $500 I would only be out $100, they say it like it is no big deal, I am already out about $1000 over this ridiculous rate on this loan. I know that one day this storefront will close and he will be at my office looking for a job. I will be much nicer to him. He is a sneak!

I am afraid if I called National Money Store they wont be as nice and send me anything in writing. I just dont want to be sued over any of this OR my wages garnished as I am a single mother raising my 10 yr old son on NO child support. I work as a receptionist and I'm afraid everytime I answer the phone its going to be a CA calling and harassing me. I'm just not knowing how to deal with this all. I have EVERY intention of paying back my PDL's but, I cant do it all at once. I cant sleep at night for fear the next day I'll get a call and then all hell will break loose. HELP!

tweety -
take a breath and calm down. We've all been there, and none of us have been arrested, jailed, or sued by an internet PDL. If they had the power to do that, we wouldn't be on this board! I'm not saying that certain PDL companies can't pursue you legally - the storefront ones definitely can and will - but the internet ones usually won't go that far.
I would say, gather your strength and courage and call these people. Tell them you are just not comfortable sending the money to them without an agreement in writing that states your debt will be marked paid in full and that they will not continue to pursue you, or place any bad marks on your credit once it is paid. Just be honest with them, and tell them you fully intend to pay, but would like this agreement in writing first.
