I recently posted about a problem I was having with a CA over a debt I've been paying on for 5 years. I CMRRR'ed them a debt validation letter and they signed for it. What's my next step? Do I just wait for them to send me validation? Any advice would be appreciated.

I would wait and see what their response is going to be.

When the collector validates your accounts, make sure that they show you the latest payment history. This should come up as a vital proof of their legit collections.

According to the fdcpa, they are supposed to reply to you within 5 days upon receipt of your letter. I've sent DV letters and haven't heard anything back in a month. Here's something else to give thought to. I received a letter from Zenith regarding a debt and I responded by sending a DV letter. Within the letter I notified them that their license to collect in my state had expired. I verified that info through my state's department of commerce website. Ensure the CA that contacts you actually has the right to conduct collection activities in your state. If they don't have a license, you can cite them for attempting to collect on a debt that they aren't authorized to collect.

fiv,
You are incorrect. They do not legally have to validate at all. The five day rule you are quoting comes from initial contact with debtor. It states collector must mail out letter within 5 days of contact with debtor. A note on validation. If they can't validate, they cannot legally collect on account.

You will want to visit this website and see if your state has a statute of limitation on debt, see if this debt falls into it. Also, becareful any payment you make will re-age the debt and give it new life. Visit the link below to see what your state says about SOL.
