I will try to make this short:

When i got divorced i tried to make it easy. Well i kept my ex out out of my retirement(married over 10 yrs while in the army). So i thought iwas good..well the ex hid 40+ grand in debt...well now i have knocked it down to about 18 with help on this site. Now Financial Recovery Systems calls me saying i owe 8500 to citi. Trying to do right i told them i was contacting citi to negotiate a settlement..then they say their client, citi, will let me settle for 5111. I agree that sound okay. then they want an electronic check right then to settle. I say i want the account marked paid as agreed on my credit. They Agree. And here is where it gets good. I told them in order for me to release the funds i want a letter faxed to me stating if i pay the amount it will be marked as we had agreed. Then the long hold, followed by i will call you back. Then a supervisor calls me back asking to release funds. When i make the same demand he tells me once i authorize the electronic check his system will allow him to print the authorization letter and he can fax it. That sounds hokie to me. Anyone else i negotiated with faxed me the terms of our negotiated amount and how they would reflect on my credit report before i sent money. THis sound funny to anyone else??

I would say that they should be able to fax you something stating that if you paid the agreed upon amount by electronic check this account will be marked paid in full...I wouldn't send them anything until they could send me that in writing

$5111 is alot of money and they should be able to fax you a settlement letter. This company is a member of the BBB, but they have had a total of 77 complaints filed against them in the past 36 months.

Financial Recovery is the CA that has my account.

I would stand firm on the letter.

I sent them a C&D last week asking that they not phone my house again.

I knew some of the numbers calling in were from them, but I didn't realize how many different numbers they were using until I sent the letter and the calls stopped.

I'm still receiving calls I suspect is from them as someone is calling and trying to block their number.

Before I sent the letter, an agent phoned my neighbor and asked her to call and give me a message to phone them.

I am aware it is not against regulations to call a neighbor to verify location, but is it legal for them to ask a neighbor to phone you and deliver a message?

Reesie,
They have violated fdcpa a few times already. Communication after c&d is one violation.Contact with third party is another.Engaging third party to help in collection is another. Review the FDCPA and you will see that they are stomping on your rights.

i am kind of playing tag and run with them right now for sheer entertainment..they threatened to call my boss and tell him i am a sorry excuse for a soldier i said he is right here...and had a recorder present to record it..i handed him the phone and they told him i refused to pay my debt and even told him the amount. he told them if they call again he will report it..they called not ten mnutes later so he notified the Military Police to file a report on it..i hope they choke on it..
