I'm going to guess that you've incurred interest charges, over the limit fees as well as late fees.
Request a debt validation letter.

Welcome to the Community Here is a link for the Statues of Limitations at http://www.fair-debt-collection.com/SOL-by-State.html#T Depending on when your last payment to them was, this may be out of the SOL. This does not mean the debt isn't valid, and they can continue trying to collect, it is just that legally they cannot pursue it. Send them a debt validation letter and have them validate the detb. They will charge interest, tha's why they amount has gone up..Good Luck!..Karen

All of the above posts are correct. If this was in 2000, unless you live in Ohio, no doubt the SOL has run. You are under no obligation at all. They can still try to collect, but it is way too late for them to seek any legal action. I would send the above mentioned validation letter, stating, "please tell me how you have calculated what you say I owe, and all evidence that I am contractually obligated to you for this alleged debt on which the statute of limitations has run."
