In Massachusetts and other states, it is illegal to record someone unless you have their permission. What I am wondering is if when you first call a debt collector and there is a recorded message saying " this call may be recorded" Do they still have to ask your permission to record you?

Actually, by not hanging up you're giving your consent to be recorded, depending on how good your lawyer is I think they call it implied consent.

I looked into it more and even if it has the disclosure stating the call may be monitored or recorded, before they can start recording, they have to get your permission.
