I just can't figure out who they're collecting for. PLUS--they're only calling me at work so I can't answer the phone to ask them.

I've been called 5 times by Robert. Says I personally guaranteed an account with Office Max and that my company owes $220. Spoke with a corporate manager at Office Max. We owe them nothing. And guess what - my company has never done business with Office Max!!!

These people are calling me, but will not send me a letter. I asked them to send a validation of debt to me, but they got very mad and rude. It is the law that they must validate the debt if someone disputes it. I told them this and they went crazy! They would not even let me speak after I knew my rights. They transfered me three times, and finally to their "legal department". I got some kid who asked if I was an attorney. Then he threatened to sue instead of validating the debt. These people are crazy Quacks!!

if you paid your debts you wouldn't have to worry about it now would you. people ask for the validation of a debt just to slow the collection process, you know what your debts are, if you paid them in the first place, they wouldn't be calling you now would they.

the first year of a new business is the hardest. if a company has been in business for eight years, sounds like someone is doing something right.
SameBox Response from "paulmergel":
no it just means that not enough people have taken action against said bottomfeeder.more people should.

Wow, How wrong Paul is. Apparently he is a collector and won't disclose. You are correct they must validate the debt, and no it is done to slow the process it is the law. The purpose the law was enacted was because collection agencies were reporting debts incorrectly and most of the time fraudulently against companies and individuals, many times the debts were paid in full already and or actually did not belong to entity and or the person. The law was enacted to keep collector honest and the vendor honest as well. By the way here is another little tid bit for you whenever a third party collection agency is contacting you THEY MUST disclose who they represent, the name of their company, their name and contact information - it is the law. To relieve you of harrassing phone calls just send them a letter via certified mail to cease any and all verbal communication and they must communicate in writing. This will avoid any threats, misinformation, makes the collection agency and yourself to work within the laws that govern them, and should the collection agency violate any portion of the law you have documentation and you can file for sanctions against them. In some very extreme cases proceed with criminal prosecution.

If you haven't received a dunning letter with info about the alleged debt and how to dispute it, then assume the caller is a scam or phishing expedition, and file a complaint against them with the FTC, the FCC, and your state Attorney General. And sue them if they keep it up - document all their violations.

No letter, no money...

File a complaint with the FCC. Call your phone company and inquire about having the number blocked. Send them a Cease & Desist letter.
