I don't know if I owe anything for sure or not. I do owe a doctor $5000+ and make monthly payments of $40. Other than that, I have no debts that I am aware of.

Here's the deal, why I hate creditors, and why I would never apply for credit, not even a credit card!!

The interest and service charges are legalized theft.

The credit Card offers, the large limits!! Who couldn't resist "FREE" money??

But it is FAR from free. You not only have to pay what you charged, but you have to pay service charges and interest that can make each purchase double in price!!

If it were up to me, I would outlaw credit cards. My father is still paying on his and the charge is over $37 a month for fees. I consider that theft. He says once he pays it off, he is going to destroy the card, and not use credit again. I don't blame him.

If something happens that causes you not to be able to pay, you are harassed.

Same goes for medical bills. If I did not have the money for health insurance, what makes the hospital and doctors think I got $1000's of dollars to pay them?

Let's say a collection agency is after me for medical bills I thought were forgiven, or a Doctor I am paying monthly.

I'd like to know why someone would send a bill for collections without letting me know first?

Oh, like I'd suddenly become rich and pay the collector? Nice try.

I chose not to used credit, because it's a ripoff. But medical expenses are unavoidable, and if I cannot pay, I cannot pay. I have nothing to lose, because I have nothing.

Well, I am waiting to find out if a CA is indeed after me for a debt I do not know about. As far as I know, I have no debts that are not being paid on.

I agree, the financial situation or our nation is that of a debtors nation. The average household is generally in at least $20k of debt and it keeps climbing every year. We are in need of some major economical reform before something really bad happens.

Im on board with you. Ive seen some bad times and I dont want to see them again. Working as a debt collector brings home the fact that many folks are a couple paychecks away from being homeless - me included. Markofkane, I agree with your comments on credit.

Back on topic.... contact the collection agency and get more info. There would be fewer fraudulent accounts if consumers were more proactive.

People need to educate themselves on credit. There are good creditors and bad creditors. Read the contracts including the fine print.

What I find slightly amusing is that on most credit card contracts the defaulted interest rate is in big black bold letters, it's even bigger than the regular interest rate and people still complain about it.

People need to educate themselves because this country obviously isn't going to do it. People need to learn to plan better for the unfortunate incidents and also need to learn to not live outside of their means.

Educate yourself.
