Can someone tell me what a civil collection is? I was reading our local county newspaper and saw my name under civil collections with Credigy Receivable Inc. The problem is I have no idea who they are and what they are collecting for. Any informaton would be appreciated. Thanks!

Send a debt validation letter because you have the legal rights to know about the debt they are collecting for.

One can insert your name anywhere but it must have a legitimate purpose. Use your legal rights and get the debt validated by Credigy.

I don't have any information on where to contact them. Seeing it in the newspaper was the first that I heard about it. Would the court house give me any information?

It could be that you are being served with a lawsuit by publication. Definitely check with the courthouse. If there is a lawsuit against you, you need to take care of that. Here is some information for when you are being sued that I recently posted to my blog.

There are supposed to try, at least. Often, it seems, debt collectors are either unwilling or unable to do the legwork. Still, if you don't answer a lawsuit, things much worse than a phone call from a debt collector will follow. It's better to be sure.
