Be wary everyone of comments by guests who seem to 'know' about how a company operates. They may be phishing for your private information. They usually do not register with the site, and remain as passing guests, with certain knowledge of a company. Be careful who you become 'buddies' with, regarding a guest. Many collectors visit this site, hoping to get a "debtor" to reveal more than you should. Just a little of my paranoia to share.

Lawyers who collect are still subject to fdcpa and if they report to a credit bureau they will fall under Fcra as a data furnisher. Don't be scared of them.Use the law and make them follow it to the letter.

These two guys are thieves and are out to ruin lives of anyone they can. They should only look over their own shoulderand realize they have families also. One day things will turn around on them. I am confident.

No AnthonyLemons

I dont work for CnS, Quite the opposite, I have had an account in their office for quite a long time and recently had my bank account frozen and assets seized by them,

However, I used to work for another collection agency a few years ago and learned this stuff by watching what went on in the agency. Notice nothing I said encourages people to give up private info or catipulate to high pressure tactics that are designed for maximum payment in minimum time.

I DO and always will encourage people to keep proof of payment that keeps debt hunters from trying to double dip. If you can prove the bill was paid once, you wont be forced to pay it again.

Just plain common sense

C&S is the bane of my existance. I Started the thread because I got a collection letter from them for a debt from 2003. After googling them I saw what theis company does. I am now waiting over a month for a debt to be validated. It is good to hear the experience that others have had with them. It scares the hell out of me, but as Cajun abnd Anthony point out, I wil use the law to work for me. You guys know I will keep you all updated.

Kim I am not gonna accuse you of anything, but when they seized your account you could have sued them. That judgment is improper because you were never legally served.

Cajun

At this point I have paid over 1000$ dollars on this debt, and it is more than half way to being paid off. The only reason it hadn't been paid was because I couldnt get the original debtor or the crazy C/A to work with me to establish a fair payment arrangement.

This may sound silly but I want to pay the debt... and I also want to nail Cohen and Slamowitz to the wall for their garbage tactics. Is there a way to do both?

(Actually I found this place looking for a way to do that.)

Read the fdcpa and the Fcra in the links in my signature at bottom of my post. Once you are familiar with the laws,I am sure you will get them on violations. Once they have enough violations and a clear paper trail then a consumer attorney should be able to nail their hide to the wall.

They did levy my account! I had an outstanding credit card debt that went to a collection agency and then they filed a judgement against me in county court and then it went to Cohen & Slamowitz and they did LEVY my checking account!

It was a nightmare. I am currently on a monthly payment plan with them. UGH

After judgment they had the legal authority to levy your bank account or garnish your wages.

Isnt it strange that a company who refuses to make arrangements before the judgement is filed has no choice but to accept them after?

Just a random thought
