Report them to the BBB and you should get a quick resolution. They are bottom feeders and will not just remove your account because you have asked them to validate their claim. I just got my account removed..... after 3 years of dealing with this company. Trust me.... go straight to the BBB and FTC.

I sent a debt validation letter/request (I copied the letter posted in this thread) to MCM and they responded quickly w/ a transaction history, nothing else.

Is this enough to validate the debt or should I write them back and ask for the other validation/proof that I requested in my first letter to them?

Thanks!!!

Mike- what I did with another company that did this to me was, send them a copy of your first letter, along with another letter.

State they did not validate according to the first request and you are requesting this info. Keep copies of everything, send it cerified, return receipt, and go fromt here! I am still waiting- a year and a half later Good Luck..KAren

Hi,
I had a card with Newport News some years back that went into collections. The debt was approx. $500-$600, however after they continued applying various charges it ended up being $1216. In 2004 Midland Credit sent me an offer to pay only 50% and it would be accepted at payment for the full balance, which I agreed to.

After speaking with a representative, I made an agreement to send two payments of $304 within a 30 day period. I sent the payments and asked for a letter from them indicating the account was paid in full, which they did 30 days after the checks cleared my account.

However, 1 year later I began to receive collection letters stating that I owe $608 (some said $631) and offered the same 50% agreement. I ignored them, however this year 2007 I received a court document indicating that Midland Credit (or FCNB, I'm not sure) had brought suit against me. Knowing that I paid this debt according to our agreement, I agreed to appear in court with my letter from them stating the debt was paid in full. After I contacted the court informing them I would appear, I received a call from the law firm representing Midland Credit. I explained to them the agreement that was made and also sent them a copy of the letter, which they requested. Within two days, I received a letter from that firm informing me that they cancelled the court date.

However, I am now receiving credit card offers from Jefferson Capital Systems, LLC regarding this same "so-called" debt with Midland Credit for the exact same account in the amount of $631, informing me that I have "an opportunity to satisfy this debt" and would then be allowed be qualified to receive a new Emblem MasterCard credit card.

I have not responded to them. Should I contact them or Midland Credit and how should I respond?

Please Help
Ann

I had a letter arrive to my home about a year ago. I called the number given and spoke with the gentleman. A debt to MCI was accrued and had my name on it. Funny thing is that I was not even on this continent (America) when it was made. I was serving in the Armed Forces ans stationed on Hawaii at the time. The gentleman was polite and expressed his dismay at how such an oversight could have happened.

Just yesterday I recieved a letter from CBCS who was acting on behalf of Midland. They want to make a settlement with me. I'll be doing the old copy an paste of the above letter and mailing it off to Midland today. Or should I be sending it to CBCS? CBCS only has a PO Box listed and I can not find a street address for them.

I'm angry, I'm upset and quite po'd at this. Luckily Midland has an office right down in San Diego. It would take a day for me to drive on down there... But it may be worth it.

Any help would be greeatly appreciated. Whom should I mail this leeter to? Midland or CBCS?

Mrs.G,

You said you owed Household and just stopped paying because the bill kept going up. Did you think the bill was just going to go away. They don't reward you for not paying your bills. Debtors like yourself have to pay interest on your debts just like any consumer in good standing. So you bill should go up. There is nothing to validate, you already acknowledged the debt belongs to you. Validation is only for cases of id theft or an account you never had. Not because you don't want to pay.

You were sent this letter because it is your responsibility to prove the debt is not yours. The company doesn't have to prove anything to you. If that was the case nobody would pay bills. Your the delinquent debtor, you've already demonstrated poor decision making and low integrity. what could the company possible sent to you to proof to you that you owe the debt? You already know you owe it your just trying to get out of it. Stop being stupid!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

well I sent my debt validation letter to Midland early in December, they recieved it on Dec. 9th. Now I received a letter from them dated Dec 13. This is what the letter says:
Dear ,
The purpose of this letter is to request your assistance so that we may reach a quick resolution to your dispute.

We are attempting to verify your dispute and it would be helpful to have a copy of any documentation you may have that proves your dispute. In the interim, we have requested that the three major consumer credit reporting agencies change the status of this account to "Disputed".*

Please mail or fax cancelled checks, paid letters, police reports, or any other documentation you may have to support your claim to 800-306-4443 Attention: Consumer Relations.

We can be reached at 800-825-8131 ext. 2980 should you have any further questions.

Please understand this communication is from a debt collector. This is an attempt to collect a debt. Any informatio will be used for that purpose.

Sincerely,
Consumer Relations
800-825-8131 ext 2980

*Your credit report will not be updated if the federal reporting period has expired.

So can anyone tell me what they are doing about my validation letter? Are they just fishing for information or what?

Thanks!

Remeber all thos collect calls from your loser friends and family you were getting while stationed in hawaii? Well guess what, they were using MCI. Since you accepted them collect than you have to pay the bill. I'm trying to be as simple as I can for you but it's truly difficult. Pay your bill

I got a letter from MCM about two months ago staing I had a Citibank caredit card I went into default over. HMMM I have NEVER HAD A CITI CARD IN MY LIFE. I knowe something was up. I mailed them back the letter with a note asking them to PROVE I owed the money and where they got such info.
Low and behold I got a letter in the mail today with a note stating they were taking the information off all the major credit reporting agencies!!!!!!!!!

Well back in the 1980s I sued a local credit agency for placing erroneous information on my credit file. I needed school loans and 8 backs rejected my applications. I brought in the denials along with a letter from the credit agencey stating the had placed ERRONEOUS information on my file. Guess what?? The judge ruled in my favor and they had to pay me!!!!

I am thinking with all these letters about this company perputrating fraud why don't we just start a class action lawsuit and shut them down for GOOD. I think I may take them to small claims court myself.
Thanks,

GD,

Please take the time to read your replies before sending them. Where did I say that Hawaii was not a part of the U.S.A.? What I sais was that I was not on the same continent. Or did you fail geography? And for your information, I thank God every day for those servicemembers serving thier country on foriegn soil. They are doing as they are told to by the political party that YOU voted into office. And if you didn't vote you can have a tall cool glass of S.T.F.U..

I do not own a cell phone, never have and never will. While stationed in Hawaii I was deployed for the majority of the time. I was never home long enough to accepted a collect call.

Now... does anybody with anything intelligent to say have a responce? And GD, you keep telling everybody to pay the bill. Are you a collector lurking these boards?

I almost forgot. I mailed and recieved a reciept from the CA. Now the letter that I sent to Midland was sent back with "RED" printed on it. Does anybody have a legit address for Midland?

Thank you all in advance. And GD, I appologize for what I said. It has been a hectic day here and snapping at you was the wrong thing to do.

back in 2002 i signed up with a long distance company and TOLD THE COMPANY THAT THE BILL WAS TO BE SENT TO ME AND NOT THE PERSON THAT WAS LISTED AS THE OWNER OF THE PHONE NUMBER (MY DAUGHTER). THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY WOULD AND THEY DIDN'T AND ALSO mislead me bout their long distance service to international countries and that the fee would be the same as calling in the usa. the bills total over a 1000 dollars. well that long distance company has turned the acct over to midland collection.
back in around april of this year i called the company and was told by one of their representatives that they would accept bout 60% of the orginial dept in full and close the acct. i told them that i would have to make the arrangements to pay this and they told me to call back to confirm the amount.

i have called the company several times and have also sent them faxes to the woman in charge of the account asking that they send me the required papers and the amount agreed upon to pay so that the payment could be made BUT NO ONE SENT ME THE CONFIRMATION PAPERS.

instead they keep sending a bill for the full amount. i have also ask that they help to setup payment arrangements and they refused to do so.

i would like to know what i can do to get this settled.

thank you
rose
