|
|
I got a call yesterday from someone saying they were a collector who immediately started yelling, screaming and cursing at me telling me I was already being "downloaded" to the County prosecutor's office and I was going to jail unless I sent $650 within 20 minutes. I was like, "WTF are you talking about." He got even more rude, telling me "DON'T TALK BACK TO ME. YOUR F####### A$$ IS GOING TO JAIL." Any attempt by me to try and get a clue as to what this idiot was screaming about was responded to by more curses and threats.
Getting nowhere, I just hung up. He proceeded to constantly call back for the next 30 minutes, but I didn't answer the phone.
I don't know of any debts that I have and I don't see how they could put me in jail. Does anybody have a clue what this creep was babbling about?

I had a similar call from a guy stating his name was Roy Lawson. He hasn't called in a few days but I do know he was based in Cypress CA. I am trying to research the address for the number he called from to see if I can find a location for him. I filed a complaint with the CA Attorney General and they need more info. on him.

They can't put you in jail for an unpaid debt (even if it actually is yours).
If it's legal to record phone calls in your state, you could record the next one with him threatening you and calling you names. Those are FDCPA violations and could be grounds for you to sue them.

I agree with you alias, check your state laws to see if it is legal to tape the conversation with them. I know in my state it is legal as long as the person doing the taping knows (meaning yourself) about it...doesn't really make sense to me but oh well...don't let them bully you

I'm pretty sure in NC it is legal to tape a conversation and I don't have to let anyone know I am recording it. I'm going to start saving the voice mail that they leave on my home phone. I just had another call from the same type of person with a 610 area code. I'm going to go after every last one of these people if it kills me.

I'm not sure what company he said he was with. It just caught me as such a surprise that somebody would call you out of the blue and act like this. Does he really expect me send him money just because he calls me and acts like a mad man?

Sounds like US National Bank is at it again...How many different names have they used so far? What ever you do do NOT send them any money without validation. I wouldnt waste my time with these jerks! I've been "downloaded" for years now........
