My attorney sent me an email saying that the collecting "law office" dropped the collection and marked the original creditor "paid in full" in return for my attorney dropping the suit. They also agreed to remove anything negative off my credit report. Cost to me $00.00.
Apparently the collector paid the fees as part of the deal. If you need a good attorney in Florida to handle collectors please PM me. 1 down several to go.

hiya frog--I posted a question about dealing with attorneys in here, I would really appreciate it if you could post some input. It's the only recent thread I have started, if that helps you find it.

FrogPatch!
You gave me this information once before, and it looks like I may be using it now. I have a CA calling my Mother repeatedly looking for me, this is after I sent them a cease and desist/debt validation letter. This was in response to them leaving one of those "If you aren't so-and-so, then hang up now" message on my Mother's answering machine, then proceeding to divulge all my personal business in the message. They have my correct phone number, as it hasn't changed in years and I even included it in my letter.
I was willing to allow them one instance of this happening, as it could have been an honest mistake; however, they have called every day since this past Saturday. I'm really getting ticked off!

Grrrrrr! I do plan to PaulMergel!
You know, I'm usually a pretty patient guy. Lately, though, since I have had to deal with one CA after another violating the FDCPA, my patience has worn pretty thin. I know it's been said that most CA's do abide by the law and behave in a professional manner when collecting on debts; however, I must be one of those rare cases that defy the statistics. I have had to deal with one shady CA after another for over a year now. They don't listen when I tell them my financial status, as I'm sure it's not what they want to hear, and then proceed to harass me and my friends and family and violate my rights under the FDCPA. They ignore cease and desist letters as well as debt validation requests. They try and pretend they are law firms or law enforcement in order to intimidate. They even threaten to call my employer, which is kind of funny since I don't currently have one, knowing that is a violation of the law. They even try and sue me, submitting half-@$$ed paperwork hoping I won't show up to court so they can get a default judgment.
It just never ends!
I know I owe money. That is so not the point! I just have no way of paying these debts right now, and no amount of harassment and abuse is going to make me produce what I don't have!

No a lawyer has to be licensed in California to practice law (sue you). You can check if a lawyer is able to practice law by going to the California Bar's website. members.calbar.ca.gov/search/
Also Asset Acceptance is not licensed to collect in California.
Send them a new letter asking that they prove that they own the debt, the statute of limitation has not expired (4 years in California) and that they are licensed to collect in the state of California. The California Secretary of State's website shows that they aren't. kepler.ss.ca.gov/
I sent them a copy of the page showing that there license was not valid and they stopped dealing with me.
