What can I expect at a garnishment hearing?

CACH was able to get a default judgement against me for about $3,000. I say 'about' because interest is still accruing.

I only remember getting a copy of the lawsuit back in March 2007. I didn't respond to it because I was still broke. The motion for default judgment was entered in May 2007, and a certificate of judgement was issued in July 2007.

Oops.

Now, in June 2008 they are moving to garnish my 'property other than wages' (I'm self-employed). They have emptied my checking account (about $500).

My hearing is in July. Is there anything I can or should do at this point? The judgement itself is not up for discussion at this hearing.

Anybody else been there? If it makes a difference, I'm in Columbus, OH.

Since you failed to respond, they have a legal enforceable judgment on you. They will take any assets they can by law.Check out your allowable exemptions per state law.
