I owe Washington Mutual Credit Card over $15,000. They gave me a 4 month hardship program which is up this month. I called but they say that is the only hardship program they have and I will have to pay $650.00 a month or they will take further actions. I make $9.00 an hour and owe 21 other cards that I am paying on. I am working 60 hrs a week to pay all my cards.I can only afford to pay them $300. Any advice on what I can do would be appreciated.

What's hardship program? Excuse my innocence, but I really don't know what its meant by 'hardship program'. However, you can try and negotiate the matter with them. Otherwise, you can simply let the account go charged-off and then consider any debt repayment program.

Many credit cards have "hardship" programs. These programs give you lower interest rates and or lower monthly payments for a limited time so you can make up missed payments or try to get in a better financial position. WaMu's hardship program was 4 months with 10% interest and monthly payments of $200. This didn't even allow me to get my balance below my credit limit due to late payment charges and over the limit fees.

First off,do a line item budget on how much money you have coming vs how much it costs for basic necessities. Once these basic items are paid, see what is left over to pay cards.

WaMooHoo won't work with you. I'm experiencing this myself. I had spotless credit up until a year ago...had medical issues and now I find myself in some pretty bad circumstances. Word of advice...make sure you have good medical coverage. Anyway, back to WaMu...I tried and tried to negotiate some kind of payment arrangements with them to no avail...gave up in June and went with debt settlement company. My credit is looking pretty bad these days, but I really don't have any other options, short of filing for bankruptcy and I don't want to do that (even though I'm not sure when this is said and done that my credit will look much better than if I did file for BK) because I don't want to screw anyone over. The creditors are pretty stupid as far as not wanting to negotiate repayment terms for people who are having financial problems...I don't know what they think the outcome will be. If I had x amount of dollars to pay them each month, I wouldn't be in the situation I'm in.

I also had a cc with Wamu and they were charging me over 40.00 a month due to being less than a hundred dollars over the limit. I tried and tried to get it above that so they would quit charging me. No matter the amount I sent, it stayed the same so I was getting nowhere. I sent them a letter trying to work it out and they would not. So>>>>>>>> I'm just not going to pay them at all. I'm on disability and own nothing and do not have a bank account so not much they can do. Serves them right for not wanting to work things out with anyone.

If you are even 1 cent over limit it then you will be charged an over the limit fee. It's something you agreed to when you took the card.

they are now changing interest rates on your cards because they can as well they can also call in payment at will the gov just passed new laws to regulate the hosing and pillaging but unfortunately they do not go into effect until 2010 from last posts I read gov needs to keep backtracking lenience they gave them in past 8 years and start holding these cos. accountable for their awful awful actions simply because they can and will hose and pillage at will jmo
