I received a statement from Valentine & Kebartas in the amount of $3.12. I called them to determine what the debt was from and the amount owed was in fact $3.12. They verified the amount to be $3.12 and told me to send a money order to clear it up. I was a little concerned about sending a money order because I want to have proof of a cancelled check, but now I worried about sending a check. They call me non-stop claiming the amount is actually $312.00. Do I have the right to go by the statement they sent me or what they are telling me over the phone. I can't get any straight answers from these people! They hang up on me after 5 minutes.

Yes, they're a collection agency for Cash Transfer Centers. I'm going to send the letter today because I know I paid this off!

I just ordered a copy of the cancelled check from my bank. I also pulled my credit report and I am disputing that it should have never made it to my report. Will disputing the line be enough or should I place a personal comment on my report? I have a feeling it's going to take a while to get it removed with these people.
