This is America and we don`t have debtors prisons in this country. Don't worry you can`t go to jail. You tell them you are not allowed to take calls at your job and if they continue to call your job you will file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission and your state attorney general. Once you have told them not to call you job and they call again they can get in trouble. These jerks will say anything to collect. They are all bark and no bite. Don't let them scare you. Hang in their . There are a lot of people here who have settled Pay Day loan debt. You might want to ask for advise in the Pay day loan forum . There are a lot of people who have been in your shoes who can help give you sound advise.

Guest, yahoo.com is indeed a very good site with lots of information, but I'm not sure how it may help the OP with her situation.
Nagirl, stop worrying, you have come to the right place. You're amongst the friends now. Lemme tell you that they're only applying scare tactics to get the money from you. Mobile is absolutely right, you can't be put to jail for not repaying the loan. So please don't hit the panic button and give away your hard earned money to these loan sharks. Let us know your state of residence, amount owed by you initially, outstanding amount and information like that. You can then see into the laws of pdl in your state and can help you further.
Also, do what mobile has suggested. If they continue harassing, that step is worth taking.

Dear Nagirl,
A collection agency can never say that it will put you behind bars. If they make certain comment like that then they have violated fdcpa, the set of rules governing collection agencies.
According to FDCPA: -
In such a case of FDCPA violation, you can consider suing the concerned CA - Legal Mediation Practice (LMP).

These idiots like to break the law left and right.
I never received the first written communication from them regarding the alleged debt they claim I owed; they are required by law to send it withing 5 days of the initial communication. I also DV'd and C&D'd them, which they ignored and continued to call me.
I finally sued them in order to get them to realize I meant business.
Owing money and not being able to repay it is not illegal. Violating the fdcpa however, which is an actual law governing all CA's, is.
Do not let these people scare or intimidate you into paying anything that you are not able to!
That said, if you do owe the debt and are able to repay it, try contacting the OC and telling them how many different ways LMP has violated the law and that you are not going to deal with these crooks.
