These people have contacted me regarding a credit card that I have. I have signed up with a debt settlement company and making payments with them. The people at Mann Bracken scared me to death, telling me that they were going to sue me, garnish my wages and do whatever to collect the debt I owe. I explained that I was in a debt settlement company and making payments to them. The lady I talked with said that they did deal with them. I have settled one credit card and made a payment arrangement thru arbitration with another one. I don't want a summons. I live in Alabama, do these people even have license for Alabama. I am scared to death but doing the best I can, which doesn't seem good enough for anybody. Can someone please give me some advice regarding these people?

They always make threats like that. Debt collectors are typically paid commission and will say or do anything to scare you. I show that MANN BRACKEN is an out of state attorney and he most likely can`t sue you. He would have to move the debt to a lawyer in Alabama. 99 % of the time its all talk to collect on the whole amount instead of 40-60 %.

justinhi5 I believe you have credit counseling confused with settlement. She is doing debt settlement. Debt settlement does not send monthly payments to the creditors but rather puts money aside each month to use to pay off a lump sum months later at around 40-60 % of the amount owed.
