I received a letter from Mitchell n kay stating I owe them money, but before I send them money I want to make sure their legit. I googled them and read a ton of bad experience from a lot of people.

Does the letter have all details about your debt? If you agree to the outstanding balance with the original creditor, then you may work out a payment arrangement.
Ask for a written statement that they will be updating your file with the original creditor after you have done the payment.

You have a right to ask the creditor to validate, or prove that the debt is yours. I would do this first and make this request in writing.
