I have a debt that I've been paying off for nearly two years and I received notification today that a third collection agency has the responsibility of collecting. First agency was united recovery systems, next was Regional Adjustment Bureau, and now, Alliance One.
I never asked the first two agencies to validate the debt. That was before I became aware of my rights. Can I ask this new agency to validate the debt even though I've paid for nearly two years?

Have you checked with the previous companies if they have posted the payments towards your account? You need to be ensured that your money went to the right place. If they have tried to scam you, get all the payment receipts and consult an attorney for building up a legal case against them and claim for a refund.
You must get the debt validated by Alliance One and be confirmed of their legit collections. You must not send anything until they have given the specifics in writing. Be aware of your consumer rights mentioned in the FDCPA laws

Send Alliance One a validation letter via certified mail with a RRR. They must validate the debt by providing you information about the name of the original creditor, copies of the documents that they really owe the debt, the amount of debt you owe to them, and the record of payments made to that account, their license number and the name of their registered agent. If they are not able to provide you any information then they are simply trying to trap you.
