Northland DV question

Hi,

I have several questions. I received a letter from Northland Group back in October of 2007 stating that they were collecting an old Capitol One account (by old I mean the last payment was in November of 2000). At the time I had no idea what they were even talking about so I requested Debt Validation/Sent a Verification/Validation letter on 10/15/2007 certified mail return receipt. I never heard back from them and quite frankly forgot about it... TODAY I get the validation in the mail.. which is how I found out the last payment was in November of 2000. First, is it illegal for them to have taken almost 6 months to validate the debt. Second, this credit card was from when I lived in California where the SOL on this is 4 years. I live in Montana now. Does the SOL apply to where the debt occurred... being California or does it apply to where I am now? Thank you for any help.

Hi Keebler and welcome
I am no expert but I believe that the SOL applies to the state that you reside in now.
I also believe that there is no time frame for submitting validation.
Someone with better background knowledge will be along soon.
