Sub: What to do if I receive Northstar Location Services settlement letter
Thu, 12/09/2010 - 16:10

Northstar Location Services, Cheektowaga NY

I read somewhere that these people from Northstar Location Services were bottom feaders in the collection world. well I recieved a collection letter from Northstar Location Services about 4 weeks ago and sent them back a debt verification letter. Today I was suprised to recieve a northstar location services settlement letter with a photocopy of the original contract signed by me, the payment history, the sell date for the vehicle (it was a repo).

So I want to know how they got this information if Northstar Location Services are not a legit collection agency and what do I do now? I do not have $7000, heck I don't have $50 right now. This bill goes back to 2004 and I have not heard from Ford or any collection agency since 2005 and have made no payments since the fall of 2004 Any ideas would be helfpul

Quote:

Regardless of Statute of Limitations, once you acknowledge the debt, they can start the clock over from the date you acknowledge the debt

That is not entirely correct. Acknowledgement of the debt must be in writing in most states along with a written promise to pay.

Sub: #12 Is Northstar Location Services a Bottom Feeder?Tue, 11/11/2008 - 06:43

It's funny how some people use the term "Bottom Feeders" when refering to a collection agency like Northstar Location Services. Considering the amound of debt some americans owe, would it be reasonable to call those debtors "deadbeats". Could you imagine what would happen if everyone stopped paying their bills. Oh wait, it already has and were now in a depression. Soooo, remember for every bottom feeder calling you about a debt that you havent bothered to pay in over 4 years, which I highly doubt you "werent able" to pay, you helped bring us in a depression. I guess those people who are contacted by "bottom feeders" are the same people that signed up for sub prime bottom feeder loans, you know, the kind that you credit sucks and you are mentally not mature enough to manage your finances. Pay your bills, you won't have any problems and don't buy something you can't afford.

Sub: #13 first off, nuggs, you need to find some reality--its highly doubTue, 11/11/2008 - 12:48

first off, nuggs, you need to find some reality--its highly doubtful that this person caused a recession because their car got repossessed. I can tell you with complete certainty that repos happen by the score regardless of economic conditions, so do us a favor and get off your soapbox with false information already.

to the original poster, please clarify for us--you said that you had not heard from a CA in about 4 years. What was the last payment YOU made on this debt? Not the activity that they applied to the account when they sold the car, the clock begins at the original date of delinquency. What do the records they sent you show as the date of your last payment? That is the date you start from with regard to SOL.

Keep this in mind--SOL does not wipe out the debt. You are still 100% responsible for your debts, no matter how old. What it CAN do for you, however, is get you more time because if this is past SOL it will limit their ability to try to force you into something now. But you do need to pay it--we dont advocate skipping out on legitimate debts here.

Please let us know about that date of last payment, and we can go from there.

Above poster is correct delinquency goes across all income levels and ages. Some becasue of medical reaosns others divorce. If the S of L has passed this gives you a better position to negotiate a better settlement price. Possibly 20-30% of original owed. Also make sure this settlement comes with a promise to remove the negative info from your credit report. DOn't let anybody tell you this is not possible becasue I did it last year.

Sub: #19 SOL and letterTue, 01/20/2009 - 15:29

I did write a letter stating the SOL has expired and to stop calling and writing letters. well, low and behold a sheriff came to my door to serve me judgement papers for this debt. attorneys are getting involved with debt collectors because they too get a kickback just for using their name or they buy a debt collection company. the sheriff said that debt collectors are getting real slick. SOL does not mean a thing in north carolina. the judge made me pay the debt and the debt collector added more on for interest. they cleaned out my bank account and stress us every month. $1746.00 was the amount and they wanted 1300.00 up front and payments after that. i was mailing them 75.00 to 100.00 a month and they did not like that. now i am up to paying 200.00 for the next 2 months. there's got to be a way to stop them from being greedy when u are trying to pay them..

the ddebt was past the SOL and you still got a judgement against you.either the debt wasn't past SOL or this story is bogus.i don't believe for a second that a judge would risk the backlash of that ruling.
