OSI (a CA) was 'hired' by the State of Maryland to collect unemployment I had owed. After 2 years of taking my State Refund I paid off the State, but yet OSI (as of the beginning of the month) is still sending me letters stating I still owe the State over $500 but yet the State says I don't owe them anything else and I am paid off. So I am not completely sure what to do. I asked the state to send me a letter saying such and they did but I have now 2 times lost the letter.

Get the state to send you a letter saying it's paid then mail a copy to the CA.

Hi Allogagan,
If you are absolutely sure that you don’t owe the state anymore then you can
• either do what FYI had said in the above post
• or send a Validation Letter to OSI (CA). Please make it sure that you send the validation letter through CRRR (Certified Return Receipt Requested) so that you will have a document that the CA has received your letter.
Regards,
Phoenix

OSI is hired as a contingency CA...they are dependant on the CLIENT or the state of Maryland to update their records. This is usually done electronically a couple of times a month. Often when your tax returns are garnished, it takes time to filter down to the correct agency and it takes additional time for the info to be transmitted to the CA. Simply call OSI and ask them to request a payoff from the state. Matters like this do not require validation or the expense of CRRR letters....it is a waste of your time and money.
