Pallino Receivables - How to proceed?!

I figured out which CA left me a voicemail. It was Pallino Receivables, formerly went by Mercantile Adjustment Bureau. I am not sure how to proceed...do I call them first, or do I just email and send via certified mail a DV letter. I need to act fast because I don't want this to go to arbitration. I am dealing with a charged-off BoA cc account of $6000. They say if I don't do anything they'll turn this over to the National Arbitration Forum, and I haven't read anything positive about them. I don't have cash to make a lump settlement, and I heard some places like Citi actually file a suit if you do send a DV letter...not sure if MBNA/BoA is like that or not.

Definitely send a debt validation letter to the company and get the account info. You need to see that they are authorized to collect on the account and all the calculations are done properly. Then you can work out a payment plan and try to stop them from going to the court.

You should immediately send a debt validation letter to them. Remember to send the letter via certified mail. Debt validation letter is a proof that the collection agency really owes the debt and the amount they are demanding is accurate. If they do not respond or validate the debt within 30 days of the initial contact then they can not take any legal action against you.

In my opinion you should also monitor your credit reports. There are many collection agencies that post false debts on your credit report. So, if you see any such listing then dispute it immediately with the credit bureaus.

You have received excellent advice so far in this topic.I have emailed you some info and my thoughts on this matter.Let me know by email if anything else pops up with them.I definitely agree you should have credit monitoring with 3 bureau daily pulls.I use Creditsecure but it is only for American Express cardholders.Go to truecredit.com and read up on their product.Their site offers 24 hour monitoring with a 3 bureau pull every 24 hours all for $14.95.

That is just too much! I got a letter from the same people saying that I owe $6087.51!! I don't even know how they took a student credit card from a few years ago with a balance of about $1,000 dollars and made it this much!! I don't trust them. In addition to that crazy unbelievable news I thought it best to get a print out of my credit report and surprisingly they are no where on my credit report and neither is the weird $6,087.51 debt. Instead of dealing with them I contacted the original lender (wells fargo) and was able to take care of my student card directly with them. I am also reporting the strange letter and activity with First National Collection Bureau to all three credit agencies and whomever else I need to.

eeeee, that does sound a bit excessive. good for you getting your credit report, very smart and you have first hand evidence that this company is shady to say the least. thank you for letting us know what you have done and I hope that you let us know how the credit agencies respond as well.
