This is a good one

In September of 2007 I bought a GPS system from a seller on eBay. I used my paypal account to pay for it. The seller had a very low rating and this should have sent off alarms. Within 2 weeks I received my brand new Tom-Tom, but it was sent to me from TigerDirect.com. (funny, but still no alarms) In December I got a call from paypal and they wanted to know if the item had come from Tiger Direct. I told them yes and thought “well Tiger is in trouble for trying to skip out on paying fee’s for big Business”. I heard nothing else until today when I received 2 copies of a letter trying to collect for a Tom-Tom from TigerDirect. The letter said that they received notification from paypal that the charges of $370.75 were rejected/declined. They are demanding I pay the money or return the merchandise.
I have no idea were they got the dollar amount because I paid less then $300. Paypal helped me download the payment history and no were does it show that anything was rejected. I had cash in the account at the time to cover this.

This has scam written all over it.What should I do now?

See if you can find the ebay item page and save it to your PC. With that and the paypal payment history it should cover you.

See if you can find it under bids you've won. It should be under your account page.

Ok, see if you can get that information. That way you can have further printable proof that that is the cost of the item. It will further substantiate your claim.

I ended up sending a DV letter to the email address listed on the letter (TigerDirect). To this I attached a copy of my PayPal history and asked them to contact PayPal (this is what PayPal told me to do)
I explained that I had bought a GPS but from someone on eBay and not for the dollor amount they had listed. I also noted the they did not have my name right on the letter.

I hope I hear something soon.I may send one by snail mail with RRR.

They won't be bound by the debt validation letter because it is first party collections, therefore not subject to FDCPA

Calling ebay should get you the info you need. Once you have it, then you can send a copy by certified mail to them and include a copy of paypal records so you can show them the recipient of the payment you made and that the payment cleared your account no problem.

momma...you can access your sept 2007 transactions thru paypal.
on your main acct page look for a clickable link beside the title/name "Account Activity (History)", w/o the quotation marks of course. to the right of that it will have a clickable link (in blue) that says "All Account Activity", click that and the next page will allow you to search through all kinds of dates. i know this works as i just tried it with mine before writing this. it showed my transactions for that time period so should work with your paypal acct.
then you can click/go to your payment page from there which will show the transaction...just be sure not to print out any real personal info but will show proof that the payment cleared for sure and exactly how much it was.
and did paypal actually decline the payment? it would also show this on your transaction page for this item.

It's almost 2 months and I have not heard back from Tiger-Direct about my email. Should I just be quiet and not worry about it or should I actually mail my letter to them?
