When you say you put your "SS# in" do you mean that you keyed it into the phone?
Do they say who they are when you call? Did you give them your name?

Some CA's, that I'm 'dealing' with, swear up and down, that they can't "bring up my account" without my SS#. YEP..they can with ONLY my name. I would like to know, too, 'SL'...did someone ask for your SS# OR did you hear a recording to punch in your #?

Never, ever give your personal data to anybody unless you want them to have it for some reason. "We can't access your account without it" is not a valid reason.

Yes, I would definitely be worried. See if you can put some sort of "fraud block" on your credit reports if you are concerned about this. At the very least, you should start keeping a close watch on your CR's just to make sure nothing underhanded occurs.
Your SSN #, just like your bank information, should never be given out to anyone. Ever. Unless you know for certain who you are talking to and dealing with. Any CA can access your information by your name, address, or telephone number. Or at least the should. I wouldn't believe any that say they can't.
Tina Turner? I would have told the CA they better be good to her, because she's a private dancer. A dancer for money. Any old music will do.

LOL! I'm sure the CA's cell mate will make him his private dancer. LOL! Anyway...you need to contact the social security office closest to you and have them put an alert on your social security number. Usually they can do one that says to call before issuing any new credit. AND contact all three credit bureaus to do the same thing. This could open you up to identity theft, and that can take years to clear up. So get it done quickly.
