SS Recovery, Vineland, NJ

Does anyone know anything about this company? They have called and I called them back, but they won't answer questions, only tell me they want me to agree to what they are saying. I tried to get an address for them, which I partially got from the person who answered the phone, but there is apparently a building number or name that I need as well that the agent I spoke with refused to give me. She also refused to answer questions about the letter they said they sent me, but I don't recall receiving. They are threatening to sue for what I believe is an illegal payday loan from Atlas Money Online.

I am not sure that the name I have for the company is totally accurate.

Everyone at the company seems to just want to hang-up rather than answer questions.

S & S Recovery is in Tennessee, according to their website.

SS Recovery (actually Secure Source Recovery) is in Ohio, according to their website.

They are not listed with Bud Hibbs as a bad collection agency.

I also Googled "S S Recovery New Jersey" (and NJ) and could find nothing.

Shouldn't they at least be willing to provide me with an address if they are a "good" collection agency?

Most definitely. I don't trust it at all. In fact, I'm not even sure that the people that are calling you are a real collection agency at all, and may be just a phishing scam.

Did they tell you about Atlas Money Online, or are you guessing?

File a complaint against them (note the caller ID number - in fact, what is it, the same # you provided above?) with the FTC, the FCC (it was over the phone) add your State Attorney General. If you ever talk to them again then tell them you have filed a complaint with the Attorney General.

doesn't sound like a legitimate firm at all. If they are new, they sure are anxious to get sued right away....


And since they are acting so illegally, I would just ignore their threats to take you to court (in fact I would say, "bring it on!") because I doubt they have a leg to stand on). Bottom feeders like this are best dealt with in court. Even if it should possibly turn out to be legitimate, you can work out a payment arrangement or settlement deal before the court case without getting a judgment against you.

I forgot to answer Chrys.....'s question. Yes, they told me it was Atlas Money Online and I do owe Atlas money. However, Atlas appears to be neither licensed nor registered to offer payday loans to Utah residents, which the state of Utah requires.

Ahhh.... My suspicions confirmed...

Google says: "Your search - 856-698-5765 - did not match any documents." (which is the FIRST time I've ever seen that!)

It is likely a "spoof" number, meaning it is fake (the call is not coming from that phone, it is probably coming from another country).

And they (Atlas) might be new, too. I only show their own websites, and this thread and one more thread on DebtCC where they are mentioned, and that is it...

Were you able to pay back the principal amount to Atlas? If so, tell them to get lost.

I hope this teaches you to never get a payday loan again, they are not worth the hassle at all.

No, I still need to pay Atlas the principal. Unfortunately the last payment I tried to send them at the address they gave me came back undeliverable.

And yes, I will never get a payday loan again. It was a very stupid plan to solve my financial difficulties.

Atlas is supposedly in BC somewhere.

And I wouldn't say it's stupid of you at all. They take advantage of your situation, mislead you, and do not fully disclose their terms (there is new legislation designed to stop that). Plus, they are really sneaky. The internet has opened up a whole new world of knowledge, but it has also made us more vulnerable to scams so do not blame yourself. Just take it as a valuable lesson.

Excellent! When you pay off the principle amount, you should also include a letter that states: 1) they are illegal in Virginia. 2) they cannot take you to court for an illegal loan and 3) they are to accept that payment as payment in full and mark your account accordingly. Send it Certified Mail, Retirn Receipt Requested (it'll cost a bit more but could come in handy). Photocopy your payment method, letter, etc, and keep it with the green card (when you get it back). File this away - do NOT toss it! You never know, you could be thankful you saved it one day. Some of these PDLs are *extremely* unscrupulous and may try again in a couple of years (it's what they call "zombie debt" for obvious reasons, but instead of "brains" they want "cash")....
