A collection agency wants to settle one of the many debts I owe. The original amount was a little more than 5,000 then with interest and other fees it blossomed to over 9,700. They want 1400 to settle. The original stopping of all payments on my cards were in 2003. What can I gain at this point by paying off this debt, while there are other outstanding amounts that total over 80,000. Buy the way I am writing my friends e-mail because I do not have one.

What you would gain would be the satisfaction of knowing that the debt that you owe is taken care of from what apears to be a significant discount from the original balance.

What state are you in.....the debt could already be outside the SOL for your state.
