I am not being sued (watch, I jinxed it), but in order to be sued, does the attorney suing you need to be in your state? I think I heard that somewhere. Any information on this would be helpful to keep in mind.

He would have to belong to your states bar association to sue you where you live but they often just find a lawyer in your state to piggy back with them and split their fees.

If I am not mistaken I believe that if they are out of state and want to sue, they have someone in another office or retain a local attorney. I have seen people sued where I live by LVNV,Pallisades, and a few others, that aren't located here. Someone else may have a clearer answer or have experienced this..Karen

Also original creditors will file in small claims court in your state because a lawyer is not required.

Ok here's my story: CACH is located in Colorado but they have lawyers that work for them all over the states, u can find this info on budhibbs site. So, in turn CACH turns it over to a lawyer in my state and they file the suit. Now it comes time to go to court, as i understood it, each state has different laws where this is concerned but in my state of LA, the lawyer that works for CACH in my state then hired yet another atty from my local area, parish here, to stand in for them! Whewww.... clear as mud huh?
No wonder this debt has tripled from origninal debt now that i posted this!!!
Good Luck and hope this helps more than confuses u,
Ang

What if a law office sues you, and you are served, but you want to sset up arrangements to pay. Is it too late since the civil sutit are already in route to be served.
