Just so you know, it is perfectly acceptable to tip your collection agent. Ten to fifteen percent of your monthly bill is appropriate.

I think I should get tipped by my collection agent just for listening to his crap. Now guest it is perfectly ok to crawl back under your rock.

Actually when I was collecting, borrowers used to send me cards, flowers and occasionally small gifts. Keep in mind that I worked with my borrowers for at least a year on their student loans, sometimes longer. I got to know them and their families. One time I was out in California visting my sister, another one took me out to lunch. Another worked for Jay Leno and the Tonight Show...she put us on the guest list so we got to sit in the Green Room with Kathy Ireland parents. We had our pictures taken with Leno after the show....

I doubt Soaplady is joking . . . . There are a few decent collectors out there, and I could see how if you work with someone for so long you would want to thank them for being patient with you, etc.
Not to say I think tipping collectors is right . . . . Just saying Soaplady is/was not the typical collector.

Paul, why would she be kidding? She was obviously a collector who obeyed the law and also worked with people. I don't hate all collectors because of the bad ones, if you think about a good collector could help you out.
I believe most debtors want to pay their bills or are at least willing to if treated with respect and have the means to pay them. Heck, I have 3 small CO's on my credit report, right around $500 total, no phone calls, they are not actively collecting them, I am not looking to buy anything soon where they are going to effect me but I will have them paid in the next few months. Of course I will try a Pay for Delete though.

WELL, MAYBE I AM A BIT TOO ON EDGE WHEN A SUBJECT LIKE THIS COMES UP. IT'S JUST THAT NO COLLECTOR OR CA HAS SHOWN ONE BIT OF A HUMAN SIDE. IF GOUDAH VOUCHES FOR HER THEN I APOLOGIZE SOAP LADY.

I am definately NOT joking. When I was collecting in the 90,'s it was a blast . I worked for an agency that trained us well and paid us well . Break the law and you were out the door . I worked with my borrowers as to what they could do . I educated my borrowers and in several cases helped my borrowers write "intent to sue" letters against other agencies that broke the law. I consolidated, rehabbed and helped my borrowers get out of default.

Wait! Isn't a tip supposed to be for good service? Not just something you're supposed to give regardless?
If that's the case, then some of the CA's and collectors I've had to deal with are due squat! As a matter of fact, they should pay me for having to endure their foolishness.
Just my thoughts on the matter.
