Got a letter from these people today for a Citi CC that previously was with GC Card Services , another CA.
I sent a DV letter to GC Card Services and never got a reply.I'm guessing I need to send another DV letter to United Collection Bureau ?
Another question : The new CA identifies themselves as United Collection Bureau Inc but checks should be made out to CitiCorp Credit Services Inc.

I'd hit them with a DV letter so quick it'd make their eyes water. It sounds like one of two things is going on here. Either:

1 - Citi recalled the account from the first CA and sent it to these guys.

- or -

2 - The first CA couldn't produce validation when you called them on it, so they sold the debt to CA #2 to cut their losses.

I think it was probably sold to another CA. I'll send a DV letter in a timely manner.

Glad you got the username straightened out. Let us know what happens with that second letter. My bet is that they can't/won't validate it, either.

Best of luck!

it wasnt sold, guys--if the CA is directing you to send payment to the original creditor, then the OC still owns it. If the CA owned it, they would tell you to pay them.

You're right soaplady, they called me a few months ago and left a message. The guy said he was in the 'litigation' department and that if I didn't call him back immediately, the 'file' would be out of his hands and said 'good luck, you'll need it'

I sure hope the bankruptcy trustee hits this company hard. I received a second letter today in the mail from these idiots trying to collect on a debt that is included in my bankruptcy, but they did not file a claim, so they will not be paid

I will be faxing this letter to my attorney and the bankruptcy trustee first thing Monday morning.

attempting to collect on a debt in BK petition and you didn't file a claim is contempt excub.that can and will get this bottomfeeder at least temporarily ordered to cease all activity not just that one action.

UCB if collecting 3rd party doesnt have to file the claim...Citibank does. CA's often get accounts that are included in placements.....there is no liability if they call and the consumer informs them of the bankruptcy and provides the bk information or attorneys name. At that point the account should be closed by the CA......however some collectors are lazy and do not complete the closing process. If the CA calls again after being notified, then they are liable.

So Soaplady, what you are saying is even though the original creditor had the account at the time of my bk filing and they did not file a claim, but they can still sale it off to some junk debt buyer like UCB?

I'm in the process of disputing my credit reports also, because UCB is reporting on them, which they should not be. By the way, UCB has been notified of my bk because the last time they try to pull this s***, they were warned by my bk attorney, and the bk trustee's assistant.

I hope they rot in hell

I was talking about 3rd party collections, where the accounts are assigned, not sold.
