There was one poster on here a month or so ago, she actually took her children to a relatives because she believed they were coming to arrest her and she didn't want her kids to see that and to make sure they were taken care of. She was also a mother of a newborn. Talk about pi$$ing me off! I felt so bad for her.

That is horrible. I can't imagine how scared a parent would be if they were not aware of their rights. I know how scared these people used to make me. Now I know that while a few CAs are ok to work with, so many are truly horrible.

Just a note...I was sorting through my files this weekend and out of sheer boredom, was looking up the names of the people who signed off on the collection letters on MySpace...wow. It truly puts a lot into perspective. Most were in their early 20s, high school diploma at best and complete thugs.

I am not surprised. They sound young, unfortunately not old enough to live enough of life and be hit with a catastrophe out of nowhere. Maybe one day they will have the misfortune to be on the receiving end of one of their terristic phone calls. I say terroristic, because that is basically what tactic some use, threatening arrest etc....causing a person to live in fear.

That is awful that someone took their children to a relatives home. Especially a newborn. I can't imagine how she was feeling!! I certainly hope that she did not send another cent to the CA and kept all of her money to help her with children's expenses. I'm not a bit surprised at the ages of the CAs. They haven't had enough time to become mature, professional people yet.

United Processing contacted me as well threatening to have me arrested, fired from my job, etc. If they keep harassing you, you can recite the debt collection regulations to them. They aren't allowed to call you at work and not allowed to call after 9:00pm. It's illegal for them to use these scare tactics and threaten to have you arrested. I recommend reminding them of this. They kept calling me at work. I told them it was illegal to do that and they stopped. One of their "supervisors" actually told me to "shut my bloody mouth". These people are vultures. You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission for illegal debt collection practices.

I am REALLY at a loss for words. How is it, that these lending companies can call and threaten people with little or NO consequences? Are the laws so lenient that they have no fear? As a citizen, if I were to threaten another person, I am quite certain I would be facing jail time. Obviously fines and being sued by consumers has little or no effect on these people, or it would not be going on as often as it seems to be? Why is this happening? Some of the things I have read about the threats being made makes me think of "thuds". I do NOT understand how and why it continues, unless, the laws aren't being enforced? Or is it that the laws aren't stiff enough to prevent them from wanting to do it? Someone enlighten me?

sdean739, Companies like this have no regard for the law and have a advantage because your average consumer does not know their rights under fdcpa and related laws. Education is their enemy, ignorance is their ally.
